Marvel Studios is rolling out the Avengers: Doomsday official trailers in a way we haven’t seen before—and that alone has turned the next Avengers film into an event months (if not years) ahead of release. From a theatrical-first debut strategy to reports of multiple trailers with different footage, Doomsday is shaping up to be as much a marketing experiment as it is the MCU’s next major inflection point.

Here’s everything we know so far about the Avengers: Doomsday trailers, what’s been reported, and what it all means for Marvel’s future.

Update: The trailers have started leaking, and we’ve added descriptions.

Update 2: Marvel has released the first trailer.

Update 3: Marvel released the second and third trailers

Update 4: The fourth trailer has leaked

    Quick Overview

    • Four different trailers will be released before Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025)
    • The trailers will be 60-90 seconds long
    • The Doomsday trailers will be shown only in theaters
    • Two of the trailers will focus on Steve Rogers and Doctor Doom

What Marvel Has Announced About the Trailers

Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. Marvel hasn’t confirmed the release date of the first trailer.

However, Collider has reported that various sources indicate that the first footage of the MCU’s forthcoming major ensemble film is set to be linked to the newest release in another of Disney’s successful franchises, Avatar: Fire and Ash. Theatergoers will see Robert Downey Jr.’s titanium-masked supervillain for the first time on December 19. The timing would be appropriate, given that James Cameron’s third adventure to Pandora is coming out almost exactly one year before Doomsday on December 18, 2026.

It’s an unusual strategy, but the entire marketing campaign for Doomsday has been unique. Remember when Marvel made fans watch a 5-hour livestream video for the cast announcement? This trailer strategy has the bonus of forcing people to buy four tickets for the upcoming Avatar sequel. Disney knows how to make money.

Trailer Schedule & Where To Watch

According to The Hollywood Reporter’s “Heat Vision” newsletter, there will be four separate trailers. Here’s what they said.

Get this: Disney is sending theaters four different trailers for the Marvel mega-movie — each will play for one week, before switching to the next. So, if you see Fire and Ash opening weekend, you’ll get trailer one. If you go a week later, you’ll get trailer two, and so on. Marvel had no comment on the rollout.

It is believed that the Doomsday trailers will change every Thursday during the first four weeks of Avatar 3, beginning on Thursday, December 18. The complete schedule for the release of the four trailers of Avengers: Doomsday is provided below for reference:

    • Trailer 1: December 18, 2025
    • Trailer 2: December 25, 2025
    • Trailer 3: January 1, 2026
    • Trailer 4: January 8, 2026

“Avatar: Fire and Ash” is a major blockbuster film currently in wide release, and it is playing in almost all commercial movie theaters.

The movie is a major release from Disney’s 20th Century Studios and is designed to be shown on as many screens as possible, including premium formats like IMAX and Dolby Cinema. The film is distributed to large chains and independent cinemas alike.

But you won’t find the trailer at small, highly independent or arthouse cinemas that exclusively show independent or classic films. You also won’t find it at second-run theaters that show movies after their initial wide release window.

Check your local listing for movie times.

    What the Trailers Contain

In a surprise to noone, the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer has leaked online. After a special screening of Avatar a few days ago, the trailers have leaked online. We can’t link to them. The first and second trailers have been released by Marvel, and we’ll describe what they show.

    Doomsday Trailer #1 (Chris Evans)

The brief teaser kicks off with a recognizable character pulling up to a mid-century home on a motorbike. After neatly putting away his Captain America gear, Chris Evans appears on screen, cradling an infant. The scene then fades to black, followed by a title card officially announcing that Steve Rogers is set to come back in Avengers: Doomsday. The trailer concludes with a live timer counting down the exact time remaining until the film’s theatrical debut on December 18, 2026.

    Doomsday Trailer #2 (Thor)

Recent updates have provided a much clearer picture of the second theater-exclusive teaser for Avengers: Doomsday. While we previously only had a grainy image and a general summary, the actual audio has now surfaced. It features a solemn prayer to Odin regarding a dire new situation:

“Of all the crowns, the kingdoms, the pride, I ask for none. Father, hear your son. I am not worthy of life, but still I beg you to let the thread lengthen. Not for thunder, not for war… let me remain long enough to see my love once more.”

This plea likely doesn’t refer to Jane Foster returning from the dead. Instead, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is almost certainly speaking about his adopted daughter, Love—the child of Gorr the God Butcher introduced in Thor: Love and Thunder. Interestingly, the character was portrayed by the actor’s real-life daughter, India Rose Hemsworth. When we last saw the duo, they were battling side-by-side as she wielded his Stormbreaker axe. However, the new footage shows Thor back in possession of the weapon, suggesting that Love has been lost or taken from him.

    Doomsday Trailer #3 (X-Men) Description

The third trailer has leaked is online, and we have a description.

It begins with gloomy scenes inside the X-Mansion. The teaser is narrated by Ian McKellen’s Master of Magnetism, who says, “Death comes for us all, that’s all I know for sure. The question isn’t are you prepared to die, the question is who would you be when you close your eyes?” The camera moves to the iconic metal plate with the words “Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters” on it. It gently circles the estate until we spot Xavier sitting in his chair in the distance.

Then the wheel of his famous chair comes into view. Magneto is blurry in the backdrop while a King chess piece floats in midair. Erik and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) extend their hands. Charles is seen sporting a blue jacket with a black and red X insignia when the camera pans up. He’s still grinning and clutching Erik’s hand in a brotherly gesture. Erik smiles back as the camera moves to him.

The scene then shifts to Cyclops (James Marsden), whose face is covered with black (blood or muck). He’s dressed in the X-Men ’97 outfit minus the trunks. Behind him, a Sentinel, a pair of enormous metal legs, moves. He takes off his visor, and a burst of energy shoots from his eyes.

“The X-Men Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday,” the teaser concludes, along with another countdown to the film’s December release.

Doomsday Trailer #4 (Wakanda and Fantastic Four) Description

Update: it’s been released on Marvel’s social media. It looks like a new Avengers: Doomsday teaser trailer, which leaked online earlier this week, is now playing in theaters. Set in a strange place, it shows Namor, Shuri (Letitia Wright), and M’Baku (Winston Duke) before the two meet a familiar face: The Thing.

Here’s a description of the Doomsday trailer. It opens in a sandy desert with the current leader of Wakanda and the Jabari leader walking. “I’ve lost everyone that matters to me,” she says. “A King has his duties to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.” The Dora Milaje are right behind them. Then there are flashes of Namor in a new costume. Namora appears wearing the water mask. King M’Baku introduces himself to a familiar face: the Fantastic Four’s Ben Grimm, a.k.a. The Thing. It looks like the 20-second clip is edited because it begins with the words “…of Wakanda.” Grimm introduces himself, saying, “Ben. Uh…Yancy Street. Between Broom and Grande.” The teaser ends with Shuri performing the classic “Wakanda Forever” salute before boarding a Wakandan ship. A title card appears saying ” The Waknadas and The Fantastic Four will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” It ends with a countdown to the movie.

The desolate, barren world looks a lot like the dimension at the end of time. It’s where the Time Variance Authority (TVA) sends the pruned. It was first shown in Deadpool & Wolverine.

    Marvel’s New Marketing Strategy

Reports claim Marvel produced four distinct versions of the Avengers: Doomsday official trailer. Instead of one teaser, different versions will rotate throughout the first month of Avatar 3’s theatrical run. This strategy treats the film like a massive pop-culture milestone.

    Steve Rogers Takes Center Stage

The first Avengers: Doomsday official trailer focuses exclusively on Steve Rogers. Insider Daniel Richtman claims this teaser showcases Steve’s life after Avengers: Endgame. The footage confirms his return and establishes him as the film’s lead character.

    Four Trailers, Four Characters

Insider My Time To Shine Hello reports a major Marvel shakeup. While Doctor Doom originally held the lead, Steve Rogers now takes the top spot. Marvel created four short scenes, each centering on a different hero.

The first trailer shows Steve Rogers riding a bike with a baby boy. Another trailer will reportedly feature Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Fans are already searching for the Avengers: Doomsday trailer release date to see these reveals.

    A Massive Finale

The Steve Rogers trailer ends with a specific tagline. It states, “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” It also includes a December 2026 date and a countdown clock.

Some argue Marvel is relying on nostalgia to win fans back. However, others believe Steve’s time-traveling story left too many unanswered questions. Fans will finally get answers once the Avengers Doomsday trailer release date arrives.

    Runtime, Format & Technical Notes

While all four Avengers: Doomsday trailers are set for an exclusive theatrical rollout, they’ll eventually make their way to social media. Until then, brace for the internet to be flooded with thousands of trailer leaks.

One thing we know for sure is the runtime of the first trailer. According to data from the Korean Media Rating Board, the trailer will have a duration of one minute and 25 seconds, which is just under 90 seconds.

That length lines up with a classic Marvel teaser: short, atmospheric, and focused more on tone than plot.

Based on early descriptions, the teaser format likely includes:

    • Minimal dialogue
    • Heavy use of score and visual callbacks
    • Quick flashes of characters rather than full scenes
    • A final stinger designed to dominate social media discussion

In other words, this isn’t meant to explain Doomsday—it’s meant to announce it.

Notably, reports suggest the trailers avoid overloading viewers with multiverse exposition. Instead, it appears focused on scale, inevitability, and consequence—a clear tonal reset after years of multiverse complexity.

What This Means for Marvel’s Marketing & MCU Timeline

A New Era for Marvel Marketing

Marvel’s strategy for the Avengers Doomsday official trailer marks a major shift. The studio now prioritizes theatrical events over instant social media views. This approach turns trailers into premium content rather than disposable online clips. Fans are eagerly tracking the Avengers Doomsday trailer release date to catch these exclusive debuts.

    Theatrical Hype and Strategic Reveals

Marvel is releasing multiple trailers exclusively in theaters. This plan reportedly ties into screenings for Avatar: Fire and Ash. This method slows leaks and encourages fans to visit theaters multiple times. It allows Marvel to reveal characters and shifts in tone across several weeks. This prevents a single trailer from spoiling the entire narrative at once.

Reorienting the MCU for Phase 6

The staggered rollout of the Avengers: Doomsday official trailer helps clarify the MCU timelinefor Phase 6. Each preview spotlights different saga elements like legacy heroes or multiverse fallout. This helps casual viewers understand the story before the next massive crossover event. It effectively serves as a marketing reboot for the franchise.

    Establishing a Pop-Culture Milestone

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer release date sets the stage for a true inflection point. Marvel is reminding viewers who matters and why this story is essential. By treating the trailers as events, they position the film as a must-see milestone. This strategy ensures the film stands out in a crowded entertainment landscape.

    Avengers: Doomsday Trailers — FAQ

When will the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer be released?

Marvel has not announced an online release date. Current reports suggest the first trailer is debuting exclusively in theaters, attached to select Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings, before going online later.

How many Avengers: Doomsday trailers are there?

Industry reporting indicates Marvel has prepared four different trailers, potentially rotating them during the theatrical run to highlight different characters and story elements.

How long is the Avengers: Doomsday trailer?

A listing from a foreign ratings board suggests the first teaser runs approximately 1 minute and 25 seconds, though Marvel has not officially confirmed the runtime.

Will the trailer be released online the same day?

Unlikely. Marvel appears to be testing a theaters-first rollout, meaning the trailer may remain exclusive for days or weeks before being posted on YouTube and social platforms.

Does the trailer confirm the cast?

The trailer reportedly teases major returning characters and supports reports that Robert Downey Jr. appears as Doctor Doom, but full cast confirmation is still expected closer to release.

Is this a teaser or a full trailer?

The initial footage is widely described as a teaser, with a more traditional full trailer expected later in the marketing cycle.

Why is Marvel using a theatrical-only trailer strategy?

The strategy creates event-level anticipation, reduces immediate spoiler spread, and ties Avengers: Doomsday to another major theatrical release, reinforcing the scale of Marvel’s next crossover.

Marvel isn’t just advertising a movie—it’s retraining audiences on how to anticipate an Avengers event. By making the Avengers: Doomsday trailers scarce, theatrical, and staggered, Marvel is restoring a sense of occasion that had begun to fade in the streaming era.

When the trailer finally hits online platforms, it won’t feel like the beginning of the conversation. It’ll feel like the moment everyone else finally catches up.

What do you think Marvel is hiding in the Avengers: Doomsday trailers—and should theatrical-only previews become the new standard for MCU releases?em
