A new leak may have revealed when the next Star Trek show will premiere. Here’s everything we know about the show’s rumored release date.
The upcoming Trek series on Paramount+ is called Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. After the first season’s production concluded in February, Paramount+ revealed plans to launch the series in “early 2026” during the summer. And because of an accidental social media post, we may already know when that might be.
Commander Lura Thok, a Klingon/Jem’Hadar hybrid who serves as the Academy’s “Cadet Master” and the first officer of the USS Athena, which is integrated into the academy, is one of the more talked-about new characters on the program. Gina Yashere, a British comedian and actress, plays Thok.
The show takes place in the 32nd century, approximately 800 years after the conclusion of the Dominion War in 2375. Her Klingon/Jem’Hadar ancestry is a believable development due to the lengthy timescale, which allows for the evolution and interspecies reproduction of genetically modified species, such as the Jem’Hadar.
The Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) actress praised the crew behind the camera in an Instagram post, saying, “The prosthetic department at @startrek are a bunch of geniuses.” Production on the second season started in August. Additionally, my breasts appear fantastic thanks to the costume department. That’s all.”
Additionally, she concluded her statement with the words, “See you in January 2026🖖🏾.” Following widespread attention on the internet, Yashere changed her message to the PR-approved “early 2026.”
Given that Star Trek TV will only have two seasons in 2026, a January premiere would be earlier than anticipated. The 10-episode season of Strange New Worlds is also anticipated to premiere in 2026, though Paramount+ has not yet announced a premiere date. The fifth and final season of SNW began production in Toronto last month, while the filming for that season concluded in July.
Yashere may have acted prematurely on an anticipated announcement that was due this weekend, but it’s also possible that she was wrong or was merely speculating. At the Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic-Con (NYCC) on Saturday, we should expect a definite response. In addition to co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, Paramount is inviting Academy stars Holly Hunter, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, Bella Shepard, Zoë Steiner, and Paul Giamatti to the major event.
In addition to the “Starfleet Academy Interactive Experience” on the exhibition floor (Booth #1723), Paramount+ is actively promoting Starfleet Academy at NYCC. In addition to “tackling various hands-on challenges that put their skills to the test,” attendees will get the opportunity to “step into the role of a cadet-in-training.” Along with a unique Star Trek: Starfleet Academy prize, you also receive a personalized Academy ID badge to chart your progress.

Expect news on Strange New Worlds as well, since the panel is divided to include producers and stars from that program.
