Recap Invasion (2025): S3E5 – “Point of No Return”
Before waking in the crashed helicopter, Trevante Cole (Shamier Anderson) dreams of the aliens aboard the mothership. Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna) and the WDA soldiers regain consciousness to find the pilots dead and alien vines glowing outside. Mitsuki warns of the aliens’ presence. As they prepare to move, Mitsuki connects mentally with the aliens, but he interrupts the connection. Disoriented, Trevante experiences flashbacks and falls to the ground as the soldiers engage with hunter-killers that attack them, causing Trevante to scream in agony as he recalls visions of Caspar Morrow (Billy Barratt).
A hunter-killer targets Trevante, but Mitsuki intervenes by grabbing a vine and stopping it as the soldiers fire. After the hunter-killer falls, Mitsuki screams in pain before fainting. One soldier carries her while another assists Trevante. Meanwhile, in another helicopter, the pilot informs Jack Hollander (Eric Lange) of another dead alien, prompting him to devise a scummy plan to divert aliens away from Trevante and Mitsuki. Hollander’s team rescues them, while he forces three soldiers to remain behind to detonate grenades. That guy is a real jerk calling them expendable. But they follow orders and destroy the second chopper to destroy the hunter-killers. The explosion momentarily distracts the remaining aliens as the group continues on their mission.
In Shadow Lake, Washington, a truck transporting the getaway ambulance arrives at a farmyard, where Verna (Erika Alexander) is helped down. Aneesha Malik (Golshifteh Farahani) is anxious to know their location but is told not to ask if she wants to return home. Despite a woman’s offer of food, Aneesha and Clark want to return to their children in Idaho. Jamila Huston (India Brown) says she’s hungry, and the woman encourages them to see something inside the house. Inside, a news broadcast reveals that aliens have spread from the portal sites, causing all interstate highways in Idaho to be shut down, effectively blocking their return home. Clark Evans (Enver Gjokaj) suggests they should contact their kids.
In the woods, Hollander briefs his team about their situation: the shard bomb is intact, but they lack communication and are 20 kilometers from the airport. He decides they must march the distance despite Nikhil Kapur’s (Shane Zaza) skepticism about their survival. Trevante discusses a fallen soldier, Rodriguez, with Staff Sgt. Chen (Curtis Lum) suggests he talk to Tucker (Aria Shahghasemi) for more insight. Suddenly, Mitsuki starts convulsing, prompting the medic to express concern, but the CEO says he knows how to help.
In the Dead Zone, a woman named Indigo Seven (Alvina August) collapses and contacts Marigold Three (Verna) to report her partner Clem’s death at the hands of a new type of alien. Eavesdropping, Jamila learns of a mission to the mothership and challenges Verna to warn the WDC about the new aliens, despite Verna’s caution about their reluctance to listen to outsiders. Verna tells an associate to make an anonymous tip, and Jamila expresses her desire to join the team, believing Trevante will heed her warnings.
Trevante attempts to express condolences about Rodriguez to Tucker, but he’s unimpressed. But he does mention his son, Sam, and the possibility of Trevante going to Oak Creek, Wisconsin, if they don’t make it. Amidst movement in the woods, two soldiers from the exploded chopper reveal themselves, having fled before the grenades detonated. I’m so glad they survived. At the farmhouse, Clark and Aneesha decide to escape; Aneesha stealthily seeks a car while arming herself with weapons found in a barn. Clark learns from Jamila about Trevante’s mission before she can hear his escape plan. Meanwhile, Verna confronts Aneesha as she tries to start a truck, ultimately persuading her to allow her into the cab to share a plan to warn Trevante and reach the WDC airstrip for a quick return home.

On the march, soldiers carry Mitsuki on a stretcher, and Nikhil halts the group when he notices her waking up. Disoriented, she realizes he installed a neuroinhibitor to stop her fugues, which she did not want. Nikhil insists it saved her life, but Hollander orders her to walk with the soldiers. Trevante checks on Mitsuki and asks about her experiences during the firefight. She recounts feeling a connection to the network that stopped the hunter-killer, describing it as beautiful, which prompts Tucker to accuse her of romanticizing their comrades’ deaths. That guy is a real hard case. They arrive at the airstrip.
At the airstrip, Mitsuki and Trevante discuss his slow recovery of memory after experiencing alien consciousness. Trevante decides to undertake the mission alone, fearing for others’ safety, but Hollander doubts his capability. Verna’s group arrives, waving a white flag, leading to Hollander ordering the soldiers to fire. But Trenavte recognizes them. Despite skepticism about Verna’s knowledge of the Dead Zone, she requests to use Hollander’s antenna to contact Indigo Seven, and he reluctantly grants her five minutes to establish communication.
Verna attempts to contact Indigo Seven in the office by connecting her radio to the antenna. Outside, Trevante senses he’s being targeted by snipers on the roof as he approaches Tucker and Nikhil, urging them to play along. Once Verna establishes contact, Trevante warnsthey need to get everyone on the chopper. Trevante tells Jamila of the plan, while inside the office, Verna tells Indigo to tell Hollander everything. However, when he takes the mic, she unexpectedly cuts his throat with a hidden knife.
Outside, snipers fire, killing several soldiers as Jamila seeks cover and calls for Joel, who chooses to fight with his Aunt instead. Trevante aids injured soldiers boarding a chopper with Jamila, Clark, and Aneesha, but a grenade launcher destroys the shard bomb. Trevante jumps onto the helicopter just as Joel boards with a live grenade, which Trevante manages to dispose of safely before takeoff.
The nephew is taken by the army as Jamila gives him a horrified look. Verna’s people scrabble on the ground. She emerges and looks resolutely up at the helicopter.
Overall: Skip Invasion (2025): S3E5 – “Point of No Return”
Don’t watch the Invasion episode “Point of No Return” because while it’s an action-packed episode, it still feels like it’s moving at a snail’s pace.
In Invasion Season 3, Episode 5, the tension escalates as human resistance faces betrayal and shifting alliances. Trevante’s leadership is tested amid chaos, while Mitsuki’s discoveries deepen the alien mystery. Despite strong performances and sharp pacing, uneven editing and rushed subplots weaken the emotional impact. [SPOILER] shocking betrayal reshapes the stakes, adding a devastating twist that propels the season forward. The episode balances emotional weight with thrilling sci-fi action, capturing humanity’s desperation and resilience. While not flawless, it remains one of the season’s most gripping chapters—proof that survival now depends on trust, courage, and confronting impossible odds.
Unfortunately, this season has been hit or miss. We’ll see what the next episode brings to the table.
I’m giving this episode 3.5 out of 5 stars
