Recap Invasion (2025): S3E4 – “The Mission”
At the FBI field office in Boise, Aneesha Malik (Golshifteh Farahani) makes a brief call to Clark Evans (Enver Gjokaj), inquiring about their kids, Luke (Azhy Robertson) and Sarah Malik (Tara Moayedi), amidst the chaos caused by events at the portal sites, which are prompting evacuations. Their conversation is cut off after 60 seconds. Clark then sends the children to a neighbor’s house while he and Jamila Huston (India Brown) head out to retrieve Aneesha, assuring the kids they’ll be safe and will bring their mom back home.
Meanwhile, a helicopter transports Mitsuki Yamato (Shioli Kutsuna) and Nikhil Kapur (Shane Zaza) to Skywatch Headquarters in Montana, where an encounter leads her to punch Jack Hollander (Eric Lange). Inside, Trevante describes his experience on the mothership, recalling memories linked to Caspar Morrow’s (Billy Barratt) death and a frequency from a portal. Despite attempts to trigger further memories with the frequency, frustration arises. A female official reassures them that more memories will emerge during the mission, which is revealed to Mitsuki, Nikhil, and Trevante for the first time.
Aneesha pleads with the FBI to release her, claiming ignorance about the Infinitas community, despite them revealing that her home computer has been searching for information on it for months, likely due to her husband. Meanwhile, Clark and Jamila encounter a traffic jam while heading to the FBI field office, leading him to take drastic measures to find an alternative route. It plays out like a commercial for Chevrolet as it easily drives over rough terrain. At Skywatch HQ, General Bryant (Aaron Pearl) informs Trevante, Nikhil, and Mitsuki about the ineffective WDC defenses against hunter-killer aliens, with scientists predicting a collapse in 30 days due to vine structures connecting them to a mothership. Hollander proposes a dangerous mission to infiltrate the Dead Zone, recruit Trevante and Mitsuki to destroy the mothership with a shard bomb, while Nikhil expresses skepticism, Trevante is eager to participate.
The CEO of Dharma Industries informs Hollander that Mitsuki cannot approach the Dead Zone, but the leader of the World Defense Coalition insists she be part of the mission, threatening Nikhil with military imprisonment if he objects. Faced with the destruction of his home by alien vines, Nikhil reluctantly agrees to join. Meanwhile, Trevante and Mitsuki bond over their losses as they wait in the planning room. Back at the FBI field office, Jamila and Clark are looking for Aneesha. There is some resistance from the desk clerk. While there, they meet a young man named Joel (Ashton Sanders) trying to get his Aunt Verna’s (Erika Alexander) heart medication for her.
Aneesha waits with Verna, who offers her some chocolate, but she declines. The woman insists Aneesha is lying about being fine and speaks of Infinitas as a caring figure who provides truth, similarly to how The Movement helped people. Back to Mitsuki, where she discovers the Skywatch HQ laboratory, where she reflects on her brain surgery while examining claw marks in a containment unit, before being joined by Nikhil. This part is really moving.
She accuses him of betrayal and inhumanity, while he highlights her worsening fugue episodes and offers a prototype neurodampener to block alien signals. She compares his offer to the WDC’s treatment of captured hunter-killers and rebuffs his help, rejecting the device. He argues that they share the same goal, but she declares her desire to be rid of him and the alien voices, storming away. Ouch.
In the FBI field office, Jamila and Clark strategize to retrieve Aneesha, with Clark noting a security code. Meanwhile, Verna’s nephew speaks to Jamila about his aunt and extraterrestrial matters. Growing impatient, Clark asks the group to create a diversion while he attempts to sneak into the back office using a stolen code. Pretty sneaky. Back at Skywatch HQ, a task force prepares to transport a shard bomb via helicopter. Soldiers, including Trevante and Mitsuki, interact, with Hollander justifying his earlier actions regarding Mitsuki’s brain surgery without an apology. One soldier on board says God abandoned them, and Cole is there to “clean up his mess.” Not everyone sees him as a hero.
At the WDC office, an agent delivers pills to Verna, who then asks to use the bathroom, leaving Aneesha alone. Clark arrives, but chaos ensues when the woman collapses. Outside, Jamila and Verna’s nephew are told she’s having a heart attack. However, Aneesha realizes it’s anaphylactic shock as paramedics arrive. While attending to her, she’s taken on a gurney, as an agent reacts angrily to a fax before chasing after them.
Aneesha, in an ambulance, is confused by the lack of supplies when her nephew uses an EPIPen on her. He had it the whole time? Yes. Inside, the agents identify Verna as Marilyn Tanner, also known as Infinitas. Clark urges Jamila to enter the ambulance as he notices the agents chasing them and shuts the doors, signaling the driver to leave. Infinitas confesses to Aneesha that she wasn’t supposed to be part of the plan. The ambulance then drives into an open trailer in an alley, which drives off.
As the two helicopters reach the Dead Zone, the pilot spots a bright structure expanding quickly in front of them. They call it in right before the helicopter crashes into it. The tail breaks off due to the erupting vine constructs. Hollander and Nikhil watch in the other helicopter as Trevante and Mitsuki’s helicopter plummets from the sky. This part was kind of hard to make out, but a pretty shocking cliffhanger.
Overall: Watch Invasion (2025): S3E4 – “The Mission”
Watch the Invasion episode “The Mission” because while it’s a slow-paced watch, it delivers in moving the ball forward. Much like a good football game is won but yards this show is slowly building to a climax.
Invasion has always been about weaving a complex story over time, and this episode is one of the best examples of that. In “Invasion” Season 3, Episode 4, it is revealed that [spoiler] is actually Infinitas. It’s not a huge surprise, but it’s presented well. Unfortunately, the episode suffers from slow pacing, and most of the action happens off-screen. This is disappointing for fans who expected more visual engagement, such as CGI portals.
Like a lot of this season, the characters sit around discussing their feelings in mundane settings rather than advancing the plot. Despite these issues, the episode builds tension as Trevante, Mitsuki, and Nikhil engage in a risky infiltration plan, while Aneesha faces interrogation. The series appears to be setting up for a key turning point, as human conflicts escalate alongside the alien invasion.
While it’s a good watch, I’m giving this episode 3 out of 5 stars.
