Jason Momoa is set to return when filming on Dune: Part 3 (2026), the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, begins, although he doesn’t exactly resemble or portray the character you might anticipate.
Momoa is seen shaving in an Instagram post to commemorate his return to the Dune franchise, which he started six years ago. It’s a stunt to commemorate the anniversary, which started concurrently with his partnership with Mananalu, a company that makes eco-friendly aluminium water bottles.
In the video, he talks about the significance of minimizing single-use plastics while shaving his facial hair, which is his least favourite activity. Referring to Denis Villeneuve, the director of the Dune franchise, he acknowledges that he would do something like be clean-shaven “only for you, Denis.”
And Momoa went on, “G—mmit! I hate it,” he said on Instagram. “It has been about six years — maybe a little bit more — since I did Dune.” However, as lovers of Dune mythology are aware, the actor’s return to the Dune universe depends on the direction of the film. In the first movie, Momoa portrayed Duncan Idaho, the devoted swordmaster and guard of House Atreides, who trained Paul (Timothée Chalamet) and worked for his father, Leto (Oscar Isaac). He most likely perishes while eliminating a large number of the Emperor’s Sardaukar warriors.
The circumstances of his death, since he is clearly killed in the book, lead to an explanation of how his body was subsequently brought to the Tleilaxu, even though we don’t witness it happen. Their clones, called Gholas, are well-known in the Dune universe and will be used when Paul gains power in Dune 3. It’s also interesting to note that Paul’s son Leto II, who is portrayed by his real-life son Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, is likely to be enamoured with Momoa’s return as someone who is totally devoted to the House Atreides.
