Recap Alien: Earth (2025): S1E04 – “Observation”
The episode opens in silence. Arthur Sylvia (David Rysdahl) disabled Wendy’s (Sydney Chandler) listening components to block out the baby alien’s cries. Boy Kavalier insults Dame Sylvia (Essie Davis) and Kirsh (Timothy Olyphant) as he shoos them out of the room. He pushes for Wendy’s testing to explore her connection to the embryo, stating it’s an IT issue, not a gab session.
Joe Hermit (Alex Lawther) protests continuing the research, but the CEO reminds him about his new lung, saying, “You’ll never guess what we did with the old one.” But the testing continues, and she can hear more and more of the alien noise. Wendy says the baby creature was “screaming.” Kavalier pushes her to vocalize the sound she heard against her brother’s wishes. She bristles when he calls her a child. She asserts her independence, saying, “I can speak for myself.” They all agree to take a break, and she offers to take her brother to her room.
The show then explores the unusually cozy life of hybrids, with each having personal bedrooms. Wendy shows Hermit her stuffed animal collection and crayon drawings. Wendy then wonders if her brother is mad at her because he never visited her. Hermit says that as a medic during the war, he was on the other side of the earth, and he believed his sister was dead. They settle in together to watch Ice Age 4.
Meanwhile, Morrow (Babou Ceesay) Facetimes Slightly (Adarsh Gourav) and pressures him to be his “friend” and get him one of the alien eggs. When the young man says it’s stealing, the cyborg pulls an “Uno” reverse card. He says it’s not stealing if the eggs were stolen. Then, Slightly is just returning them. To “help” Slightly trust him, he gives his Ghanaian name: Kumi Morrow. Then, he asks Slightly’s real name: Aarush Singh. Kids (or hybrid kids), never give your name to strangers online. Especially on Roblox.
Later, Kirsh analyzes Slightly’s eyeball camera footage and suspects Morrow might have him under his control. With the help of the Three Wise Monkeys, Kirsh confronts Slightly about his loyalty, thinking he’s being manipulated to betray Prodigy. During the encounter, the cyborg warns him to be careful. He’s always watching. The synth drops the subject for later.
At the same time, Kavalier and his team are experimenting with the eyeball octopus alien from the ship on a sheep. It turns out the creature burrows into the victim’s eye and brain. Seriously disgusting alien, but “highly intelligent.” The CEO dismisses the scientist’s concerns as “half full.”
Andrew has had enough and takes Dame somewhere private to complain that they’re not doing science. He says the hybrds are in Beta testing, and the guy is taking the project too far. She brushes off his concerns and says they’ll figure it out.
But she gets proven wrong when Nibs (Lily Newmark) tells her she “knows” that she’s pregnant. The scientist tries to explain that a machine can’t get pregnant, but Nibs is adamant. It’s when she tries to show the redhead a diagram that it becomes violent, with the hybrid breaking a table. So Dame tries another tactic and asks if anything happened at the towers. Nibs has flashbacks of the monsters and refuses to talk about that, too. Dame has had enough and pretends to make tea and calls security to take her away for a “level three event.”
Atom Eins (Adrian Edmondson) visits Hermit to discuss his “future” with the company. He reminds him that Wendy (Marcy) is a product of the company, and they can deny him access if he quits. He also reminds him that the company gave him a new lung, and he needs to work it off by helping them. His brother reluctantly agrees before Kavalier asks him if fighting the alien was like fighting a “crocodile” from Peter Pan.
He moves on to talk to Wendy and find out what the aliens are saying. But she’s more interested that Kirsch was “hurting” the alien by operating on it. Again, the CEO changes the subject to imply her brother doesn’t care about her. She promises he won’t be a “distraction.” There are a lot of people being manipulated today.
Checking back on the rest of the Lost Boys, Tootles (Kit Young) wants his name changed to Isaac in honor of Newton. It’s a little thing, but something is wrong with the hybrid kids.
Meanwhile, Slightly tries to get into a lab but can’t get through security. When he tells this to Morrow, he gets a big surprise. The Weyland-Yutani rep reveals he’s talking with Singh’s mom. Morrow doesn’t have to say anything since it’s obviously a threat. The cyborg tells him to find someone and get them near the egg to get attacked by a facehugger. Then Morrow will come collect them to get the surprise inside like a Cracker Jack box. He’s got 24 hours.
Smee, Isaac, and Wendy discuss what motor oil tastes like and how the five corporations took over Earth. When Joe arrives, they decide to demand to see their family. Then Wendy goes to see the alien and has a conversation in alien chirping.
Overall: Watch Alien: Earth (2025): S1E04 – “Observation”
The stakes seem higher than ever at the halfway point of the season, and the mysteries continue to grow more sinister. This episode explores Prodigy’s research on Neverland, a Southeast Asian island with lush landscapes. Nature is juxtaposed with the unnatural setting, like Alex Garland’s Ex Machina.
While we don’t get the xenomorph, we do get an alien eyeball, so there’s plenty of horror. The episode takes some time to explore the morality of putting children in synthetic adult bodies. The standout scene is when Babou Ceesay quietly threatens poor young Adarsh Gourav, although all the actors do a great job.
I’m giving this episode 3.5 out of 5 stars because while it’s not as terrifying as the previous episodes, it’s a great one in the series.
