Recap Resident Alien (2025): S4E05 – “The Human Condition

The supporting cast in Resident Alien is crucial, with Alan Tudyk’s performance as Harry Vanderspeigle being the show’s heart and soul, as confirmed in episode 5 and further solidified as a valuable comedic actor.

Harry is adjusting to being a human and goes on a morning run, accidentally blocking traffic. He becomes a Live, Laugh, Love girlie on social media, attracting attention from foot fetishists. Harry feels “lonely” and bereft, while Liv hosts the Alien Cracker podcast, discussing the hunt for Robert and Peter Bach’s song. Mike approves of her search for Robert, even though it’s in a closet.

Harry visits The 59, where Asta’s dad, Dan, performs with his band. He hangs out with Mike, who encourages him to build a rapport with Lydia, who has an eye on him. Unfortunately, he can’t stop talking about how many vaginas doctors see. Harry can’t understand why she’d find that strange.

Meanwhile, Asta reunites with D’arcy, who tries to pressure her to adopt a dog. Dan’s bandmate wants them to play at a music festival, but Dan cannot. Asta volunteers to take over the diner, and Harry proposes to her in front of everyone in the pub. If she had a nickel for every time an alien proposed to her, she’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Asta questions Harry’s reasons for proposing to her, revealing a gap in his life. She suggests bonding with his son. He goes home and finds Bridget, Dale, and two alien friends playing poker in his cabin. After the aliens start mocking him for being human and communicating telepathically, they leave, and Bridget is furious. Around the same time, Kate plays a podcast for Ben, suggesting they talk to Liv for inside information about the Greys and their missing baby.

Dan finds Asta working in the diner, revealing he’s accompanying his band to a music festival. Asta hands Dan his suitcase, symbolizingo g his departure. Harry and Bridget fishing in his human Liza form. It ends with the two arguing and him swimming away.

D’arcy’s application to adopt a shelter dog named Ruby is rejected due to her arrest record and failed references. Not a shock, but she’s furious. She struggles with the shelter’s judgment of her ability to care for a dog.

Meanwhile Asta works at the diner, struggling not to question her patient’s meal choices. Jay (Kaylayla Raine) reveals that Dan asked her to work on at the diner to help. This irritates Asta since she feels Dan doesn’t see her as an adult.

Mike meets with Lena and Jules, who reveal the FBI has reassigned the murder investigation to the Seattle Field Office. Mike mentions the Mantid, but Lena is shocked. Ben invites Liv to dinner with him and Kate, but Liv can’t bring her husband John. Meanwhile, Harry breaks into Max’s room and declares his plan to adopt him after four seasons. Max kicks Harry out of his room.

D’arcy eats at the diner, while Asta is swamped and Jay asks Asta to return to the clinic for a broken leg. Ellen appears, and Judy attempts to adopt Ruby for D’arcy. Liv arrives at the Hawthornes for dinner, and Mike arrives wth a chicken and a perfectly sharpened knife set. Ben and Kate are surprised but still aim to address the alien-sized elephant in the room.

D’arcy and Judy attempt to break into an animal shelter to rescue Ruby. They use Judy’s credit card to jimmy the lock, but Judy accidenta;;y drops it inside. She tries to retrieve it and unlock the door but gets her arm stuck. Finally, they break the window and set off the alarm.

Back at the cabin Harry finds Peter Bach, who acknowledges his humanity or half of it anyway. Meanwhile at dinner Ben and Kate try to get Liz alone to discuss aliens. Ben asks Mike about his candle collection, which Mike rejects, leading to a hilarious scene where Ben gushes on his love of candles.

Peter learns about Robert, who helped Harry and Bridget during their time imprisoned. Peter encourages him to embrace both his human and alien identities. Back at dinner Mike discovers a camera hidden in a plant, assuming the couple are swingers. Ben accidentally spills wine on Liv, which leaves Kate alone to ask about alien abductions. Ben and Kate blurt out the camera is from the aliens who abducted their baby. The truth is out there…now.

D’arcy informs Asta of her upcoming court appearance and she agrees to help with the bank drop for The 59. That night D’arcy drinks with Judy only to wake up next day with empty glasses and the money she got from the diner. Undeposited. Harry, who took Peter’s advice, spends time fishing with Bridget and improves his relationship with his son. They reunite at the diner, and Asta struggles with the situation. Harry gives her a morale boost.

Harry is ready to bite into a slice of pie when he abruptly disappears into thin air. Asta yells his name.

That can’t be good, can it?
