There have been many videos that have generated a lot of attention and buzz on the internet, but it is difficult to say which one “broke the internet.” Some examples of massive social media engagement and news coverage include the “Chewbacca Mom” video, which went viral in 2016 and resulted in over 200 million views on Facebook.

Many trailers have gone viral, but few have reached the heights of the new teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series Star Wars: Ahsoka.

    Check it out below

One day after it was released, it racked up over 5,222,493 views. 48 hours after it was uploaded to YouTube, it hit 8,189,380 views. As of this writing, it’s pulled in a whopping 9.3 million hits. It’s also worth mentioning that it has over 267.9K YouTube likes and over 132K likes on Facebook.

This trailer isn’t going to reach “Baby Shark” levels of views. But it’s obvious the excitement for this show is nearing Krakatoa levels of excitement. It threatens to melt down the servers at YouTube and build a monument to the show.

Lucasfilm has unveiled the first Ahsoka poster and trailer. The trailer was unveiled at Star Wars celebrations in London on Friday.

The series follows Anakin Skywalker’s beloved Padawan. Star Wars hasn’t announced a release date. But the series will be available on Disney+ in August 2023. The new Star Wars trailer brings back Rosario Dawson as the live-action incarnation of a fan-favorite character.

The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the plot of the series. But we see characters in live-action for the first time. Some of the characters are from the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. That show is one of the most underrated parts of the Star Wars franchise.

The trailer features the title character. But it also sheds light on Hera, Sabine, and the other surviving rebels. The trailer stars Ahsoka Tano, played by Rosario Dawson.

    Check it out below.

“Something happened. Something dark,” Ahsoka says at the beginning of the trailer, “I feel it.”

Men In Black II actor Rosario Dawson first played Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian. In the season 2 episode “The Jedi”, the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) sought her out in hopes of training his ward, Grogu, in using the Force. Ahsoka refused, but became an ally and searched for Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Before Ahsoka’s live-action debut, the character appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Ahsoka comes from the alien species Togruta. Togrutans have large cone-like horns and color pigments in their skin. Ahsoka was co-created by George Lucas and Filoni. Ashley Eckstein did the voice of Ahsoka in the animated series, followed by Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars Forces of Destiny, and Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.

Jedi master Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) nicknamed his Padawan “Snips”. She grew from a wayward apprentice to a fearsome warrior and leader under her master. By the end of the series, she left the Jedi Order. Ahsoka returned in the Star Wars Rebels animated series. She teamed up with the rebel team Ghost (including Sabine and Hera) and dueled her fallen master. “It was really amazing to be able to have that gift of being able to bring that into this series and into this space, and I’m really grateful for that opportunity,” Dawson told StarWars.com after accepting the role.

Taking to Instagram, the Disney production company shared a teaser trailer with the caption “Warrior. Forbidden. Rebel. Jedi #Ahsoka is coming to @DisneyPlus in August 2023.”

‘Star Wars Rebels’ Co-creator Dave Filoni and The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau teamed up to continue Ahsoka’s story on Disney+. Details of Ahsoka’s plot are being kept under wraps. The series will reunite the crew of the spaceship “Ghost”. This includes the Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), ace pilot Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and a brief shot of Jedi student Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). They face a new battle against the forces of the Empire.

The show is set in the same part of the “Star Wars” timeline as “The Mandalorian”. The events of Ahsoka are all set about five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. The eight-episode limited series will focus on Ahsoka Tano’s quest to find the infamous Imperial commander, Grand Admiral Thrawn. He’s a master tactician who led the remnants of the Galactic Empire after the death of Emperor Palpatine. In the finale of Rebels, Thrawn disappeared into the mysterious “world between worlds”. The new trailer confirms he’s back in action. Ahsoka even calls him “the heir to the empire” in a nod to the beloved (but now non-canon) novels by Timothy Zahn.

The books introduced the character in the 1990s. Rebels fans will enjoy seeing the fan-favorite Loth Cat. Doctor Who star David Tennant will again voice the droid Huyang. He helped Padawan apprentices build lightsabers for thousands of years. He was last seen in The Clone Wars and will make his live-action debut. We also see the return of Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), last seen in “Andor”. Like Mothma, Ahsoka was instrumental in forming the Rebel Alliance that overthrew the Empire.

The trailer also introduces a new threat in the form of two dark-side Jedi wielding red lightsabers. Baylan, played by Ray Stevenson, and Shin Hat played by Ivanna Sakhno. This series is setting up the future of the Star Wars Universe. “Ahsoka”; “The Mandalorian” and the new coming-of-age show “Skeleton Crew” are all preparing for the culminating “movie event” film directed by Dave Filoni.

The eight-episode limited series will air on Disney’s streaming service Disney+ in August 2023.

I try not to read too much into teaser trailers because things are always out of context. It will be interesting to see what happens with the Rebels crew since the end of that show left a lot of questions. Between this and introducing Mt. Tantiss in The Bad Batch, they really are canonizing a lot of the Zahn novels. I wish we’d get a Mara Jade and/or Talon Karrde in live action, but I suppose that’s too much to ask for.

Great points Pat. I really need to read the Zahn novels. Maybe I’ll make a ranking list 😉
