7 New Captain America New World Order Set Photos Reveal New Movie Secrets

Captain America: New World Order (2024) started filming in Atlanta, Georgia. Now photos from the movie’s set are circulating on social media.

The movie is the fourth Captain America movie. But this marks Sam Wilson’s (Anthony Mackie) first theatrical appearance as the new Star Spangled Man. The film’s plot is under wraps, but the set photos reveal a few secrets.

The biggest reveal is Smyth’s Diner. Just Jared captured some photos of the set. They confirm the look and old-school charm of this iconic location.

The small roadside diner first appears in the 1991 comic Adventures of Captain America #2 created by Fabian Nicieza, and Kevin Maguire. The comic retells some of the events of Steve Roger’s transformation into Captain America. The WWI hero Colonel James Fletcher, also known as “American Eagle”, uses the diner to make a phone call. He calls General Phillips after escaping from the Nazi assassins known as “Das Vernichtungs-Kommandos.” Both men are involved in “Project: Rebirth”. The project had the goal of creating superhuman soldiers at the onset of World War II. The Vernichtungs-Kommandos were sent to hunt down the last men who had access to the super-soldier serum.

We don’t know how much of the comic book storyline will appear in the comics. But it does hint that the movie will explore more of the history before or after the events shown in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).

The new set photos also show non-costumed appearances of three of the movie’s main heroes. First we see Anthony Mackie, Cap himself,  relaxing while waiting on set.

Other photos show Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez). Torres first appears in the Disney+ limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Presumably, he’ll be taking on the role of the new Falcon in the movie as he did in the comics. Although it’s unlikely that his origin will be as complicated as it is in the comics. First appearing in Captain America: Sam Wilson #1
(2015) he eventually becomes a Human/Bird/Vampire Hybrid. Torres develops large eyes, wings under his arms, feathers over his body, and talons for hands and feet. In the MCU his origin will probably be less dramatic. He’s probably just going to wear the flying suit Wilson left behind to become Captain America.

Then we get a look at the controversial superhero known as Sabra played by Israeli actress Shira Haas.

Hass gained fame from her appearance in the Netflix miniseries Unorthodox. The series earned her nominations for a Golden Globe Award and a Primetime Emmy Award.

Sabra is the superheroine name of Israeli Ruth Bat-Seraph (Hebrew: רות בת-שרף). She was created by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. The hero first appeared in Incredible Hulk #250 (1980) in a cameo before her appearance as Sabra in Incredible Hulk #256 (1981). Interestingly Sabra is a mutant in the comics and attains superhuman strength and other skills. Sabra also has the ability to transfer life energy and superpowers to other people. It’s hard to say if she’ll be a mutant in the movies. Marvel has a complicated relationship with mutants right now.

While Marvel is trying to expand the diversity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it comes with some risk. The Institute for Middle East Understanding, a US-based pro-Palestinian organization, has criticized Sabra’s character for “glorifying the Israeli military and police.”

Even the name of the superhero was controversial. As The Times reports: “To Israeli Jews, a Sabra can simply be a person born in Israel. But Sabra is also the name of a refugee camp in Lebanon where a Christian militia massacred hundreds of Palestinians while Israeli troops stood by 40 years ago.”

The new Captain America will need all the help he can get in the New World Order. Especially while the super-intelligent villain The Leader (Tim Blake Nelson) is at large. The Leader first appeared back in The Incredible Hulk (2008).

Meanwhile, Harrison Ford takes over the role of Thaddeus Ross after the death of actor William Hurt.
Wilson joined Captain America in opposing the Sokovia Accords. So Ross probably doesn’t want Sam to serve as Captain America in place of John Walker. Throw the Leader into the mix and we can’t help but wonder if we’ll see Ross transform into the Red Hulk to take matters into his own hands.

Overall, the movie is shaping up nicely and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. I’m excited for this movie and everything I’ve seen show an epic film.

What do you think of Captain America: New World Order?
