Helmond was born on July 5, 1928, and was best known for her roles on Soap (1977 – 1981), Who’s the Boss? (1984 – 1992), and Everybody Loves Raymond (1996 – 2004).
Brazil (1985) – Mrs. Ida Lowry
In 1985 Katherine Helmond played the plastic surgery-obsessed Mrs. Lowry. This led to the most bizarre plastic surgery scene in movie history.
Time Bandits (1981) – Mrs. Ogre
Helmond also starred in the bizarre time travel movie Time Bandits. Brazil was the second time she teamed up with a director from Monty Python. She played the oddly normal wife to the grotesque Winston the Ogre played by future Game of Thrones actor Peter Vaughan.
The Six Million Dollar Man (1975) – Middy
Helmond played a minor role in the bionic TV series episode “The White Lightning War”. Steve has to track down mysterious deaths linked to moonshiners and she plays a kindly woman that helps him in jail.
The Bionic Woman (1977) – Dr. Harkens
Later Katherine Helmond returned to the bionic series as a new character. She appeared in two episodes of the spin-off series The Bionic Woman. She plays a prison surgeon at the Delaware Federal Penitentiary.
Batman: The Animated Series (1992) – Connie Stromwell
In the 90s she did the voice of Connie Stromwell, gangster Arnold Stromwell’s estranged wife.
