YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
Sorry, got a little excited there.
Hello, what have we here?
No, too much. Let’s start again.
After years of campaigning by fans, the Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Billy Dee Williams will be returning to his iconic role as Lando Calrissian in the next installment of the Star Wars series.
Billy Dee Williams first appeared as Lando in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back, an old friend of Han Solo who became the Baron-Administrator of Cloud City on the planet Bespin. While he betrayed Solo to the Empire, he redeemed himself (in the minds of some fans) by helping to rescue Solo, and became part of the Rebel Alliance.
While he was a smuggler, a traitor, and a scoundrel, Lando has a special place in the hearts of many fans as the only prominent person of color in the Star Wars Universe for decades. He has appeared in lots of expanded media and was portrayed by Donald Glover in the prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story, but there’s nothing like the real thing, baby. While Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher got to return, it seemed like the reunion wasn’t complete without Billy Dee Williams.
Williams will be making an appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX, which will be directed by J.J. Abrams and bring back Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver, among others. We don’t know where and what he’ll be doing in the new movie, but with Leia and Solo out of the picture, we can assume it will be a major role. At the same time, we know the series hasn’t always gone the way we think so there’s a chance…he’ll…die…
But we’ll find out when the film is set to open Dec. 20, 2019.
What do you think about Lando returning?
