Week 27 Box Office Winner: Ant-Man and the Wasp
Walt Disney’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp” opened in the number one spot this weekend. It made $76 million for a domestic box office gross of $76 million and a worldwide total of $161 million. This is the ninth time a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie has hit the number one spot. The “Ant-Man 2” sequel beat out the original 2015 Ant-Man opening weekend by $20 million.
Walt Disney’s “Incredibles 2” stayed in the number two position in its fourth week. It lost about 37% over the last week to make $29 million for a domestic box office gross of $504 million and a worldwide total of $773 million. The movie is now the first animated film to make over $500 million domestically
Universal’s “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” dropped two places to the number three spot in its third week. It lost about 53% over last week to make $28.6 million for a domestic box office gross of $333 million and a worldwide total of $1.05 billion
20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool 2” dropped one place to the number 8 spot in its eighth week. It lost about 53% over the week before to make $1.7 million for a domestic box office gross of $315 million and a worldwide total of $727 million.
Walt Disney’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story” slide three positions to the number 12 spot last weekend. It gained over 63% in the eleventh week to make $1 million for a domestic box office gross of $211 million and a worldwide total of $380 million.
Walt Disney’s “Avengers: Infinity War” moved one position to the number 13 spot in the eleventh week boosted off the success of the 20th MCU title. It lost about 44% to make a little less than a million for a domestic box office gross of $675 million and a worldwide total of $2.031 billion
Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place” dropped one notch to the number 23 spot in its fourteenth week. It lost about 26% to make less than a million for a domestic box office gross of $187 million and a worldwide total of $328 million. Still a huge success for the low-budget thriller.
Walt Disney’s “Black Panther” is still in a handful of theaters and found itself going up 10 positions to the number 30 spot. This is the second time the movie got a boost from an MCU movie opening. It lost about 17% to make less than a million for a domestic box office gross of $700 million and a worldwide total of $1.346 billion.
