Here are the early box office results of this past week May 14, 2018 – May 20, 2018.
Week 20 Box Office Winner: Deadpool 2
20th Century Fox’s “Deadpool 2” opened in the number one spot. It collected $125 million domestically and a worldwide total of $301 million. The “Merc with a Mouth” had the second largest R-rated opening ever. The top spot is still held by the first movie’s $132.4 million debut two years ago. It’s also just ahead of the $123.4 million opening for the horror reboot “It” last year. Deadpool delivered Fox their second largest opening of all-time behind the original Deadpool. We’ll see
Walt Disney’s “Avengers: Infinity War” dropped from its throne to the number two spot. It lost about 54% in it’s the fourth week to bring in $28.7 million for a total domestic box office gross of $595 million and a worldwide total of $1.814 billion. It’s now the fourth largest global release of all-time.
Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place” moved three positions to the number eight spot. It lost about 37% over last week to make $4 million for a domestic box office gross of $176 million and a worldwide total of $296 million.
Warner Bros.’s “Rampage” dropped two positions to the number nine spot. It lost/gained about -57.% to make $1.5 million for a domestic box office gross of $92 million and a worldwide total of $407 million
Walt Disney’s “Black Panther” dropped four positions to the number 13 spot. It’s been in the top ten for an astonishing 14 weeks. Ryan Coogler’s film lost about 60% since last week to make $0.8 million for a domestic box office gross of $698 million and a worldwide total of $1.35 billion. Even though it’s been released on home video the movie is still bringing in crowds in 935 theaters.
Stanley Kubrick’s 1968 masterpiece “2001: A Space Odessey had a limited re-release this weekend for its 50th anniversary and brought in impressive numbers. Even though it was only showing in four theaters it brought in $200,000. The film is still a treat to movie-goers and the chance to see it on the big screen was enticing.
Walt Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time” dropped 13 spots to the number 24 spot. It lost about 88% in its tenth-week to make $800,000 for a domestic box office gross of $97 million and a worldwide total of $129 million.
