Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) |
The new trailer for the sequel to Pacific Rim titled Pacific Rim: Uprising is here and it’s mind-blowing.
Pacific Rim (2013) was a movie about giant monsters, called Kaiju, destroying the world and the giant robots known as Jaegers, created to fight them. The sequel picks up ten years after the events of Pacific Rim. It focuses on the aftermath of the destruction of the Breach, and the revival of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps and the Jaeger Program when the monsters return.
The trailer is set to “Untouchable” by 2Pac from the posthumous album Pac’s Life. I Could listen to that song all day long.
It features a voice-over of Jake Pentecost (John Boyega) the son of Idris Elba’s fallen Jaeger pilot Stacker Pentecost, giving a rousing speech to the next generation of Jaeger pilots. The trailer also shows the next generation of Jaegers. Bracer Phoenix, Gipsy Avenger, Guardian Bravo, Saber Athena and Titan Redeemer are fighting a whole new type of Kaiju.
Charlie Hunnam, who played Raleigh Becket in the original film, was originally going to appear in the sequel, but he asked to be let go of his contract to work on the remake of Steven McQueen’s 1973 prison escape drama Papillon.
All I can say is that as excited as I was for Pacific Rim, this one just might top it.
About Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018)
“The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising. John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous ‘Kaiju.’ Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction. Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious’ Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale. Pacific Rim Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil, STARZ’s Spartacus) and also stars Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.”

The first one wasn't perfect, but it was a heck of a lot of fun and this looks more of the same. The creatures can reform into a bigger one? Very cool.
I loved the first one. It was just a great popcorn movie. This should be more of the same.
I don't like the change of actors, Boyega has zero charisma, I just don't get it why they cast him in movies. The action scenes look cool, though
