Well, after lots of speculation, it’s official. The new Star Trek movie coming in 2016 has an official title.
In April 2015, several outlets including Trekmovie leaked that Paramount had registered the name Star Trek Beyond with the Motion Picture Association of America. While there was some speculation that the title might have just been a decoy to throw people off, Justin Lin confirmed via Twitter that the new movie will officially be called Star Trek Beyond.
Star Trek Beyond will be the sequel to Star Trek Into Darkness, and the third in the rebooted Trek movie series. Director Justin Lin is taking over directing duties from J.J. Abrams, based on a script by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg. The film is scheduled for a July 8, 2016 release, in time for the fiftieth anniversary of the airing of the first episode of Star Trek. We’ll have more details as they become available.
