After months of secrecy and rumor, Starwars.com has finally confirmed the cast and crew of Star Wars: Episode VII, the next chapter in the saga. Not only that, but they provided this awesome photo of the crew during a read-through at Pinewood Studios in the UK. Here’s who you’re looking at: Writer/Director/Producer J.J Abrams is top center right. Clockwise from right are Harrison Ford, Daisy Ridley, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Producer Bryan Burk, Lucasfilm President and Producer Kathleen Kennedy, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Mark Hamill, Andy Serkis, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Adam Driver and Writer Lawrence Kasdan.

All right, so we know Carrie Fisher is Princess Leia, Harrison Ford is Han Solo, Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker, Peter Mayhew is Chewbacca, and Anthony Daniels is C-3PO. But who are the new faces? Well, no official word, but here’s the rumors. Daisy Ridley is rumored to be one of the two lead roles in the trilogy, possibly the daughter of Han Solo and Leia. One report claims she’s the daughter of Obi-Wan, but unless he was getting freaky in the deserts of Tatooine, I’m not sure how that happened. Andy Serkis is best known for his motion capture work in King Kong and The Lord of the Rings, so he’ll most likely play an all-CGI character like Jar Jar Binks’ great-grandson. Just kidding. John Boyega is rumored to be one of the two lead characters who will carry the new trilogy. Adam Driver is rumored to be the villain, possibly a Sith Lord. Other than that, your guess is as good as mine.

Some people have criticized the lack of women and minorities, but (for once) I don’t have a problem with it. I mean, the entire cast can’t be just this handful of people. They can cast smaller roles with women and POC and round it out.

To me, the most exciting thing is the fact that they’re doing the readthrough. That means the script is done. Shooting is scheduled to start in a couple weeks, according to the press release. Part of me wants to get excited, and the other part is saying, “Remember last time.” Oh, Star Wars, you’ve hurt me so many times, but I keep coming back for more.

    But regardless…THIS IS HAPPENING, PEOPLE.

Jar Jar's grandson – the horror! But cool Andy Serkis is in the film.

I sincerely hope they aren't doing another offensively cutesy character like Jar-Jar. Those who don't learn from history and all that. On their Facebook they also said Max von Syndow would be a part of it, which would be funny in that he played the bad guy in Flash! (aaah aaah) Gordon.

    3. Nigel Mitchell on April 30, 2014 4:38 pm

I would hope JJ Abrams would have learned from last time

    4. Nigel Mitchell on April 30, 2014 4:38 pm

I agree. Serkis' mocap is legendary

To me the most significant thing about this photo is that it is B&W, for a retro feel.
I would like to see Lucas have a cameo in which he dies, thus passing the baton to J.J Abrams. 😉

Oh, I vote for Obi Wan getting freaky. It was the force, ya know. 😉 Sorry I had to comment on that, it struck my fancy. It's cool they're going to bring back the original cast.

Lucas can just suddenly collapse in the opening credits and hand it to Abrams with a trembling hand

C-SPAN for Star Wars, that would be awesome. And certainly more interesting than the real C-SPAN.

I can smell the excitement already. I prey to Obi that they do no disapoint.

      Good suggestion, David. Love it.
