This week, comedian extraordinaire Sid Caesar died at 91. He was legendary for his sketch comedy shows in the 1950s and worked all the way up till 2004. This post is dedicated to his genre roles like The Munsters’ Revenge (1981), Curse of the Black Widow (1977), America 2100
(1979) and Intergalactic Thanksgiving or Please Don’t Eat the Planet
(1979)
While he’s not necessarily a household name anymore I have a very personal connection to Sid Caesar.
In 1985, he did a guest role on the Amazing Stories episode “Mr. Magic” as Lou Bundles. He played a washed up magician who gets a set of magic playing cards that revitalizes his career. It was touching and heart-warming but I became obsessed with the beauty of those antique playing cards. I wasn’t looking for magic cards, but I started a collection of antique playing cards that I’ve had for decades. When people go places they know to get me a set of playing cards because I also collect cards from different places in the world. The highlight of my collection is the one from France. All of this is to say that a bit role he had back in the mid-80s led me to my only hobby outside of watching an insane amount of sci-fi. Thank you Mr. Caesar.
This week’s caption comes from Amazing Stories (1985).
Here’s mine: “PATIENCE – Smiling while pretending to be impressed by a decades old card trick”

I think if I were collecting cards I'd collect the dirty kind. Do you have any cards from Air Force One? Maybe if you wrote the White House they'd send you a pack for your collection.
Way to go, Jeremy! He needed that this week after breaking his ankle.
Will think on a caption and come back. That's a tough one.
After watching The Dark Knight, Lou thinks he has mastered another trick.
"For my next trick I need a pencil and a volunteer."
LOL I don't collect French playing cards Pat. I just might hit up Obama though…
Please do Alex! This is a tough one, but I had a hard time finding funny pictures of Caesar's genre roles. Oddly enough.
Double bounty… that was VERY good. Congrats to Jeremy.
Magician: "In retrospect, perhaps I should have had a trick in mind when I asked for a volunteer."
Lol. Double bounty..nice!!!
The caption: so the lady is standing there smiling while whispering from the corner of her mouth:
"I still can't believe they haven't figured this one yet."
"If these people only knew he was wearing lady's underwear under that smarmy suit of his."
Ooooo. It's magic!
LOL
Awe LOL
The lady standing next to me doesn't even notice that I'm strangling an invisible Squirrel? Mazel Tov.
