This Thursday’s poll let’s you choose between the two greatest smugglers in science fiction.

The history of pirates and smugglers have a long tradition in
science-fiction. They are a noble, but dangerous, profession in
times of dictatorships. Two smugglers stand above the rest.
Let’s say you have a cargo of medical supplies you need smuggled to
Kessel. Or, you need to get a shipment of bootleg movies to Jaynestown. Who
would you rather call?
Would it be the pirate rogue Captain Han Solo (Harrison Ford) from Star Wars or Captain “Tight Pants” Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds (Nathan-Fillion) from Firefly? Why?

I'll admit I'm not very familiar with Firefly, but even so, I went with Han. He's too great to pass over. Besides, he gets Leia to fall in love with him, and saves the bacon of the guy that blows up the Death Star. Go him! 😀
And he got his ship impounded by the Imperials on that job too.
The fact that Mal is currently winning is a show of bias, and a curious one. By the time we met Han, his smuggling days were by necessity behind him. Or should I mention that taking Luke's party was a smuggling job?
I chose Mal because smuggling was his priority. That was what he did, both to stay alive and as his own form of rebellion. I'm sure Han Solo was good, but he also got involved in other endeavors that kept us from seeing his smuggling prowess. We mostly saw the shady characters he got to know through smuggling, including the ones he ticked off enough to have him frozen in carbonite.
They both would have "shot first."
equally i am stumped… i would love to be on both ships, running the galaxy or stealing from it. so i say draw!

I've never watched Firefly but I went with that guy because Han Solo never seemed to successfully smuggle anything. I mean he seemed to always get caught by the Imperials, which put him in trouble with Jabba. So the other guy would have to be better by default.

It's also worth noting that the entirety of Firefly was Mal doing exactly the same thing, smuggling people. Actually, Firefly was a lot like Farscape in that regard, too.
