The Best Movies and Shows to Watch in February 2026

    A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) – February 1 on Pluto

Movie still of Haley Joel Osment as David in the sci-fi movie A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001): David (Haley Joel Osment) [Image Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures]

Steven Spielberg took over to finish Stanley Kubrick’s emotional movie about a robot who dreams of becoming a real boy. The movie is emotionally devastating and criminally underappreciated classic.

Ex Machina (2015) – February 1 on Netflix

Movie still of Alicia Vikander as Ava in the sci-fi movie Ex Machina (2015)
Ex Machina (2015): Ava (Alicia Vikander) [Image Credit: Film4, DNA Films]

A modern sci-fi classic for movie fans. It’s a small, sleek, and cerebral AI thriller. A small cast, huge existential dread.

    Ghostbusters (1984) – February 1 on HULU

Movie still of Harold Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddmore, Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, and Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Raymond Stantz in the sci-fi movie Ghostbusters (1984)
Ghostbusters (1984): Dr. Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis), Winston Zeddmore (Ernie Hudson), Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) [Image Credit: Columbia Pictures]

Hulu ain’t afraid of no ghosts as they host two movies in the classic sci-fi comedy Ghostbusters. The original 1984 version and the 2016 sequel, Afterlife. The reviews on the sequel are mixed, but the original is infinitely quotable and culturally immortal.

    Interstellar (2014) – February 1 on Pluto

Movie still of Matthew McConaughey in the sci-fi movie Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar (2014): Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), Brand (Anne Hathaway)

A modern classic of hard science fiction movies from Christopher Nolan. The movie has big ideas, bigger emotions, and Nolan turning relativity into a tearjerker. It’s a movie that created an instant real-watchable classic.

Robocop (1987) – February 1 on Prime Video

Movie still of Peter Weller as Alex Murphy / Robocop in the sci-fi movie Robocop (1987)
Robocop (1987): Alex Murphy / Robocop (Peter Weller) [Image Credit: Orion Pictures]

The movie is a savage cyberpunk commentary on corporate overreach. The acting by Peter Weller elevates it above it’s b-movie feel. It’s lightning in a bottle that can never be recreated, although they tried several times.

    Stargate SG-1 (1997) Seasons 1-10 – February 15 on Netflix

Television still of Richard Dean Anderson as Colonel Jack O'Neill in the sci-fi show Stargate SG-1 episode ''Children of the Gods''
Stargate SG-1 (1997): Colonel Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) [Image Credit: Showtime]

A new Stargate show is coming from Netflix, so this is a great time to catch up on the original series. The biggest streamer on the planet is hosting one of the most beloved long-running sci-fi TV franchises ever. Deep lore, strong characters, and serious rewatch value.

The Fifth Element (1997) – February 1 on TUBI

Movie still of Bruce Willis as Korben Dallas in The Fifth Element (1997)
The Fifth Element (1997): Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) [Image Credit: Columbia Tri-Star]

Grab your multi-pass for the strangest, most brilliant, and colorful science fiction movie to come out of the 90s. Pure chaotic sci-fi fun. Colorful, weird, endlessly stylish — and still unmatched in “what did I just watch?” energy.

The Fly (1987) – February 1 on TUBI

Movie still of Jeff Goldblum as Seth Brundle in the sci-fi movie The Fly (1987)
The Fly (1987): Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum)

Cronenberg remade a classic 1950s science-fiction movie and transformed it into an unforgettable body-horror film. It’s equal parts tragic love story and nightmare fuel. Plus, the practical effects still wreck modern CGI.

The Shape of Water (2017) – February 1 on HBO MAX

Movie still of Sally Hawkins as Elisa Esposito, and Doug Jones as Amphibian Man in the sci-fi movie The Shape of Water (2017)
The Shape of Water (2017): Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins), Amphibian Man (Doug Jones) [Image Credit: Fox Searchlight Pictures]

Before Frankenstein, director Guillermo del Toro made a modern take on another classic monster movie. It’s an Oscar-winning monster romance that somehow made “fish man love story” prestige cinema. Del Toro magic.

Train to Busan (2016) – February 11 on Peacock

Movie still of Gong Yoo as Seok-woo, and Jung Yu-mi as Seong-kyeong in the sci-fi movie Train to Busan (2016)
Train to Busan (2016): Seok-woo (Gong Yoo), Seong-kyeong (Jung Yu-mi) [Image Credit: Next Entertainment World, Next Entertainment World, RedPeter Film]

This South Korean import is a relentless zombie thriller with heart. It’s faster, meaner, and more emotional than most Hollywood attempts.
