The 2025 Emmys gave a major spotlight to The Penguin and Severance, boosting their popularity and sparking fresh fan interest. Here’s how the wins are driving buzz.
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards happened on September 14, 2025, and a number of projects got a surge in popularity thanks to the coverage of the industry. One of my favorite sites is JustWatch, and they recently released some insights.
Here are some new insights from JustWatch showing that several Primetime Emmy winners have seen huge surges in streaming popularity in just 48 hours post-ceremony:
- Adolescence → +1132% vs. monthly average
- The Studio → +878%
- Hacks → +434%
- The Penguin → +549%
- The Pitt → +479%
JustWatch says,
This analysis draws on engagement data from over 20 million U.S. monthly users on JustWatch.com. Streaming popularity is based on aggregated user interactions including clickouts to streaming platforms, trailer views, likes and dislikes, watchlist additions, and other behavioral signals that capture both audience interest and intent. Popularity shifts were measured by comparing the average streaming popularity from August 17th to September 14th (before the winners were announced) vs. the popularity for September 15th & 16th, 2025.
This makes sense since The Penguin won a total of 9 Emmy Awards. The series earned eight wins at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and one major win at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The HBO show won 8 Creative Arts Emmys for excellence in technical and craft categories.
It also won one Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, awarded to Cristin Milioti. The Batman spin-off received a total of 24 Emmy nominations, making it one of the most-nominated shows of the year.
Meanwhile, Severance won eight Emmys at the 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards, out of 27 nominations, including awards for Outstanding Lead Actress (Britt Lower), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tramell Tillman), and Outstanding Production Design. The Apple TV+ show was the most-nominated series of the night, but did not win the top prize for Outstanding Drama Series.
On Monday and Tuesday, The Studio ranked #1 on the US Daily Streaming Charts and has since climbed 37 spots to #9 on the Weekly Charts, ahead of Foundation, The Summer I turned Pretty, and South Park. The Pitt now sits at #8 Weekly, with Adolescence close behind at #12 (as of Wednesday, Sept. 17).
According to the site
The JustWatch Streaming Charts are calculated by user activity from the last 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. This includes clicking on a streaming offer, adding a title to a watchlist, and marking a title as ‘seen’. This data is collected from >50 million movie & TV show fans per month. It is updated daily for 140 countries and 4,500 streaming services.
As of today, Alien: Earth, the Amazon show Gen V, is the second most searched for show on the streaming charts. The first three episodes of season two were released today, and critics have certified the show 89% Fresh according to Rotten Tomatoes.
