Flash (2018) Iris West (Candice Patton) |
Since the beginning, Iris West (Candice Patton) is a character that exists mainly for Barry Allen to save. “It was hard in the beginning,” Candice Patton told The Daily Beast. “I could see the potential [for Iris], where I think a lot of people couldn’t. I think they imagined that she would always be this version—just in the dark and kind of getting in the way of Team Flash doing their job. But as an actor and knowing where my character was potentially going, I could see the growth she would have over the next season and two and three and four. I can still see that.”
But, over the years, she’s become more important. In the latest season, she’s taken a leadership role of Team Flash and this season became the leader of Team Flash. It looks like she’s getting to become a superhero in her own right. At least for an episode.
The comic book version of Iris West never got super-powers, but the show is changing that.
“Run, Iris, Run” is the upcoming sixteenth episode of the fourth season of The Flash, and will air next week on March 13, 2018. The title is a clever play on the recurring phrase, “Run Barry, run”, used to encourage Barry Allen to run faster.
Official Synopsis: “IRIS SUITS UP – Team Flash confront a new bus meta, Matthew AKA Melting Pot (guest star Leonardo Nam), who has the ability to swap people’s DNA. During a battle with Team Flash, Matthew accidentally takes Barry’s (Grant Gustin) speed away and gives it to Iris (Candice Patton). Now, with a new threat unleashed on Central City, Barry must act as the team leader while Iris takes on the mantle of superhero speedster in order to defeat their new foe.”
