The Acolyte, a new Star Wars streaming series, takes place during the Jedi Order’s peak when they hold unparalleled power across the galaxy. A new article was released by Empire magazine, revealing new details about the show. Carrie-Anne Moss, known for her astonishing action work in The Matrix movies, is set to play Jedi Master Indara, bringing martial arts excellence to the galaxy far, far away. “[Carrie’s character] is very much inspired by Trinity,” showrunner Leslye Headland told Empire of Jedi Master Indara. “I personally wanted to see someone who had the highest status you could imagine in a Force-fu fight,” Headland continued. “Somebody that would come in and you immediately would be like, ‘Oh, that’s the most powerful Jedi in the room.’ And that’s Trinity.”
Indara’s role in the series involves her partaking in a sweeping fight scene with Amandla Stenberg’s (The Darkest Minds, The Hunger Games) mysterious assassin, Mae. Moss’s leaning toward Trinity’s action-heroine legacy re-opened her eyes to her relationship with action. Headland’s goal for The Acolyte is to make Indara “Trinity with a lightsaber,” and Moss is immediately captivated by Headland’s vision. “A part of me forgot how much I love action. I love it,” The 56-year-old actress said. “It’s hard. But I was just really thrilled that I could do it, and I wanted to do it well. ‘Gimme another take! Gimme another take!’”
Here’s an exclusive photo from the magazine.
Moss also got plenty out of jacking into the galaxy far, far away, and she was thrilled to get to play this Jedi Master and train for the fight. The Dark Side Force is rising in The Acolyte which begins streaming on Disney+ June 4. The eight-episode series will start with a two-hour premiere and new episodes are expected to air weekly.
