With Brad Pitt announcing his retirement from acting in three years I thought we’d look back at Brad Pitt’s nine geekiest moments of movies and television.
1. The Ultimate Superhero
In the film Metro Man, a super-villain accidentally achieves his dream: He gets rid of his nemesis Metro Man, and becomes ruler of the world. As the voice of the world’s greatest superhero Pitt delivered a stellar performance. Franky, he already sounds like a superhero, so its a perfect fit.
2. The Reverse Aging Guy
In the drama The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), about a man who ages backwards Brad Pitt is born as an old man. Over the years he gets younger and younger till he becomes a child with Alzheimer’s. A touching role I found insanely boring. The film won three Academy Awards, so I’m obviously in the minority.
3. Legend of the Seven Seas
The classic Ray Harryhausen film 7th Voyage of Sinbad got the animated treatment and another hero found his voice in Brad Pitt. While the movie Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) didn’t do well, it was a great homage to the finest stop-motion sci-fi film ever made.
4. Crazy Mental Patient
In the science fiction film Twelve Monkeys (1995), the world is ravished by a plague. Bruce Wilis is sent back in time to find the source of the pandemic and meets a crazy mental patient Jeffrey Goines played by Brad Pitt. With a horrible hairdo, cross eyes and bizarre mannerisms it was the farthest away from his pretty boy image.
5. 50s Style Hot-Rodder
In the classic horror cable series, Tales From the Crypt, Pitt plays a cocky street racer named Billy. In the 1992 episode “King of the Road”, he kidnaps the sheriff’s daughter to force him into a street race. The murderous young Brad Pitt soon gets his wish.
6. 50s Style Detective
Cool World is a 1992 film directed by Ralph Bakshi. Gabriel Bryne plays a cartoonist, Jack Deebs, who enters the world of his creation to be seduced by Holli Would. Holli wants to be real and sucks him into the world. Pitt plays the hard-boiled Detective Frank Harris. One of the only films to merge live-action with cartoon characters it’s also notable as being more adult than Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
7. Zombie Reporter
In the upcoming zombie flick World War Z, Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a U.N. employee who scours the world, interviewing survivors of the apocalypse. Based on the Max Brooks novel “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War.” Not only will Pitt play the main character, but his production company Plan B Entertainment produces the film. His first brush with that classic geek theme: Zombies.
8. The Guy Behind The Time Traveler’s Wife
The Time Traveler’s Wife is a movie about a guy who mysteriously travels through time. Pitt didn’t play in the movie, but he executive produced it.
9. Dressed Like a Geek
While filming a Japanese call phone commercial, Pitt wore a goofy white hat, canary yellow clothes and white shoes. This one kind of goes beyond nerdy.
