When Hot Toys ventures into the Star Wars universe, it usually stays true to current events in the galaxy far, far away, especially when producing its incredibly accurate action figures. The toy manufacturer sets its roots firmly in the current Star Wars narrative, whether it be through the newest television series and films or by revisiting vintage heroes and villains. Hot Toys undoubtedly goes hard in the infrequent instances when it doesn’t.
Hot Toys recently unveiled the latest 1:12 scale Star Wars figures that will be part of the company’s exclusive selection from the “Legends” continental line. These figures feature Darth Revan from Knights of the Old Republic and Starkiller from The Force Unleashed, two of the most notorious non-canonical Star Wars characters ever.
Though their story—as told in the events of Bioware’s classic role-playing game Knights of the Old Republic, its Obsidian-made sequel The Sith Lords, and the still-running Old Republic MMO—is no longer a part of Star Wars canon, this is by no means the first time that Revan has been turned into merchandise. However, it’s most likely among the sexiest Revan memorabilia available. The Hot Toys Revan also includes a ragged cloak, an articulated fabric hood, and two lightsabers, one with a purple blade and the other with a Sith-red one. Both lightsabers can light up and have “swooshing” effects. To celebrate the arrival of a Knights of the Old Republic reference in 2024, some overseas markets will also receive a commemorative coin featuring the figure—even though the series isn’t truly close to having its characters, worlds, or narrative integrated into the canon of Star Wars.
Similarly, this isn’t the first Force Unleashed item we’ve seen lately, but it does have a unique spin. Rather than portraying the protagonist of the action video game duology as the more typical Galen Marek, Hot Toys’ figure focuses on a darker version of what may have been. The Force Unleashed’s out-of-continuity DLC, in which Marek fully turned to the Dark Side and transformed into a mechanized cyborg monster that tore through the classic Star Wars films and their heroes, served as the model for the villain known as “Lord Starkiller.” He is sparingly equipped, much like the Revan figure, with two lightsaber hilts above his standard weapon (which will be the only one that lights up). Additionally, he will have a unique coin in foreign markets.
