The story is refreshing, with emotional reunions and no way to predict where it will head next. 5. Detective Comics #1073
- Publisher: DC Comics
- Writer: Dan Watters, Ram V.
- Artist: Goran Sudzuka, Stefano Raffaele
- Cover Artist: Goran Sudzuka, Stefano Raffaele
- Official Summary: GOTHAM NOCTURNE, ACT II: CONDEMNED / THINGS THAT MUST DIE, PART II – Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And for Bruce, that will is Batman…because myths don’t bleed, right? Well, Batman, with the last ounce of strength he has, will have to test that theory out with the Orghams as he fights through Prince Arzen’s three powerful protectors to find out. Hope is not all lost, though, as Jim Gordon and Sorrow rush their way through Gotham to help Batman before it’s too late and an Azmer demon is placed inside him…
- Review: Detective Comics #1073 introduces a dangerous Gotham, further isolating Batman and weakening his allies. The Bat Family and supporting cast also play significant roles in the issue. The Orghams pose a significant threat to the city and its population. The issue foreshadows the doom ahead, but Ram V’s masterful libretto and expertly rendered sequences make it a must-read. The art team, including Ivan Reis, Goran Sudzuka, Danny Miki, Brad Anderson, Stefano Raffaele, and Lee Loughridge, delivers well-rounded storytelling, but there is a lack of consistency between styles.

6. The Riddler: Year One #5

- Artist: Stevan Subic
- Cover Artist: Bill Sienkiewicz
- Official Summary: The penultimate issue of this hit miniseries features an unusual break in format, as we will see Edward Nashton constructing his master plan for taking down the corrupt officials and criminals of Gotham City in the pages of his journal. As his mind spirals deeper and deeper, so too does his writing become more unhinged. How can he continue to labor at his accounting job by day while also become more enraged by what he’s uncovered? As shown in The Batman movie, Edward fills thousands of pages with his rantings. Here we get a glimpse into something that was never meant to be seen and a mind equally brilliant and unhinged. By the end, a turning point will be reached and Gotham’s greatest menace will come one step closer to being unleashed. Actor Paul Dano (The Batman) and artist Stevan Subic continue the origin of the Riddler, leading up to his appearance in Matt Reeves’s epic film.
- Review: The Riddler: Year One #5 is a borderline experimental comic that offers a glimpse into the troubled mind of the future Riddler. While it may be difficult for some readers to digest, it is a fascinating experiment that could be challenging for traditional comic readers. The story is based on Riddler’s hand-written notes and crudely drawn sketches, with a few pages at the end as he plans his attack on Gotham. While it may be challenging for traditional comic readers, it is a fascinating experiment that is more interesting to think about than read.

Meanwhile, Lois and the staff of the Daily Planet set out to uncover the mysterious leader—and shocking origin—of Blue Earth!
- Review: The “Metallo Rising” finale in Action Comics #1056 showcases the best character work in comics, with Johnson’s Metallo character delivering incredible humanity without distracting from the overall narrative. The backup stories, Jurgens’ darker villain, and Steel’s conclusion are solid, providing a more empathic Superman and Steel reaching new heights. Johnson delivers one of the best takes on Superman and his world, offering new takes on classic faces and ideological threats. Jurgens and Weeks also reveal a previously untold tale with the Kents and a Steelworks mini team-up with Mr. Miracle. Overall, Action Comics #1056 delivers a great comic.

- Review: W0rldtr33 #3 is a horror comic featuring Tynion and Blanco navigating a cybernetic virus. The Undernet story raises questions and creeps the audience. Image Comics’ latest offering is a risk-taking series that continues to impress, with a straightforward narrative and clever parallels. MARC BERNARDIN brings us along with Vader on a mission you won’t soon forget! PLUS: The penultimate chapter of JASON AARON & LEONARD KIRK’s Vader deconstruction!
- Review: Star Wars: Darth Vader – Black, White & Red #3 is a chilling storyline that showcases the Dark Lord of the Sith. The issue features two standalone stories and an ongoing storyline, blending elements of Star Wars and Marvel’s brutal roster. The standout story is “Annihilated,” by Daniel Warren Johnson, which uses a messy and exaggerated art style to juxtapose Vader’s terror with his emotions. The series is one of the more consistent Star Wars miniseries in recent history, with one more issue left to go. The character-centric focus in this issue showcases Vader’s unsavory traits in abundance, making it a unique and captivating addition to the franchise.

Peacewrecker? Seriously?
I’ll read just about anything Tom King writes so at some point I’d want to get that new Batman series, though I’m a little behind right now. Besides having no money, I don’t often take a lot of time to read comics.
