Avengers: Endgame Poster |
They knew it would be big, but no one expected it to be that big.
.
This weekend saw the release of the highly anticipated sequel Avengers: Endgame, and it dominated the box office. In fact, Disney reported that Avengers: Endgame made $357.1 million in the US alone, $107.5 million in China alone, and $866.5 million globally. That adds up to a staggering $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office for its opening.
And that’s just in its opening weekend.
This is a big deal. Here are some ways that it’s a big deal.
- That’s more money than most movies make in their entire lifetime.
- 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers earned $1.5 billion total.
- Closer to home, DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justiceearned only $873 million in its theatrical run.
- The movie cost “only” $356 million to produce, meaning it’s already earned back the cost of production three times over, and the rest of its run will be almost pure profit.
- It’s the only film in history to cross the $1 billion mark for its debut in just five days.
Box Office Mojo has a list of other records that Avengers: Endgame made, and it’s huge.
