“I’m sure down the line, it has to happen…I’d love to work with Miles, I think it would be great,” Holland says enthusiastically. “We’ve definitely put the building blocks in. There’s been a few teases in the first film.”
When Cumberbatch admits he doesn’t know who Morales is Holland breaks down the “other version” of Spider-Man. Then he says, “They work as a team. Well, actually in the version that…well, I don’t want to talk about this because I might…”
After that he catches himself, but the cat might be out of the bag.
Marvel President Kevin Feige previously confirmed that the character of Miles Morales in the MCU. “All of those little things are just Easter eggs for fans until they’re something more than that,” Feige told ScreenCrush. “But anything that’s happened in the books is potential material for us. In the meantime, I think Miles is a big part of the animated movie that Sony’s making [“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”]. But where we go … we definitely want you to go ‘He’s there. He’s there somewhere'”.
In “Spider-Man: Homecoming” Donald Glover plays Aaron Davis and mentions his “nephew”. In the comics, Davis is the uncle of Miles and becomes the supervillain “The Prowler”.
For those who don’t know, Miles Morales is a boy of color in the Ultimate Comics that gets bitten by a spider and becomes the new Spider-Man.
While we never got to see him replace Peter Parker in the MCU it’s great that the studio hasn’t abandoned him. After the amazing job they did with Black Panther, Miles Morales would be incredibly inspiring as a black teenage superhero.
By the way, if you’re wondering if having a black Spider-Man alongside Parker would be “confusing” we got you covered.
