Since the announcement of Jared Leto playing the Joker in the upcoming DC comic movie adaptation Suicide Squad, there has been some skepticism. Isn’t Jared Leto too much of a pretty boy? Could anyone possibly play the role better than Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight? Well, the studio has fired a shot across the bow by releasing a photo of Jared Leto presumably in makeup as the Joker. And it is definitely not like any other version of the Joker we’ve ever seen.
When Leto was announced for the role, he was known for looking like this;
Not quite what we came to expect from the clown prince of crime. But earlier this month, the movie’s director David Ayer tweeted a photo of Leto shaved and with green hair looking out from behind a camera, meant to mimic the cover of the graphic novel, The Killing Joke.
But on April 24, director David Ayer gave us the first look at Leto in what we assume is full makeup for the role. Here it is:
This is definitely not going to be a Heath Ledger or even Jack Nicholson style of Joker. This pose is also reminiscent of a famous pose from The Killing Joke, so it seems that will be the source material.
What do you think of Leto’s tattooed Joker?

They are really wanting to make sure everyone knows that the main inspiration for this Joker is from The Killing Joke, an ok, at best, comic. The "Ha Ha Ha" tats, except font from Killing Joke.
Aside from that, I think it's fine, except the tats are kind of ridiculous, too excessive. But I like that it looks like something new.
He certainly looks different. In addition to the shaved hair, he shaved some weight as well.
Whoa…
I thought to some extent The Killing Joke was the basis for the Nicholson Joker too. I don't know why DC keeps reaching back to the 80s for their source material. Then again I don't know why the Joker needs to be in a Suicide Squad movie at all unless it's like the recent movie and the Joker is the one they end up having to stop. I mean really the Joker is the ultimate non-team player so I really can't seem him actually being part of the squad.
Yeah, not sure how I feel about it, either. Really different.
He will definitely be different than Heath Ledger's. I suspect something like Scott Snyder or Grant Morrison's Joker, just a total, psychotic lunatic, who enjoys what he does…
I like that is different. Now if they could do a voiceover with Mark Hamill, that would put it over the top. ๐
Maybe… this is a joke, it is the Joker right? I honestly think this is a little extreme, but the proof will be in the acting…
