How has Batman’s chest symbol changed over the years? Batman has had a ton of looks over the years, but one thing that’s been constant is his chest emblem. At least it’s been there. From fat to thin, from stylized to freaky HalloweenCostumes.com has created this handy infographic to see how it’s changed in the comics, movies and TV. From Detective Comics #27 to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice see how the bat has put fear into the cowardly and superstitious lot.

    Batman Symbol Evolution Infographic

    Infographic Created by HalloweenCostumes.com

What do you think of the infographic? Which is your favorite Batman symbol? Which do you hate?

That new one really takes up a lot of space on the chest. You ever notice that most Marvel characters don't have have a crest like that? I mean Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four have a symbol but Iron Man doesn't wear a big I or Thor doesn't wear a big T and Captain America just has a star and of course the Hulk is shirtless. I'm not sure which way is better, though purely for branding the DC way is better.

1986 must've been when Batman was fat and out of shape.
Not crazy about the new one.

    3. M Pax on July 30, 2014 6:31 pm

I like the 1966 logo, but that's what I grew up with. I really don't like the new one. it looks knitted.

      Cool image.

I like the new suit, but the symbol is too big.
I have never been a big fan of the Yellow around the bat.

Yeah David, it worked with the 60's costume but looks weird out of context. Like a target.

    7. Maurice Mitchell on July 31, 2014 1:30 am

      Agreed Tom.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on July 31, 2014 1:32 am

Yeah Marvel has a hard time branding their characters. You can buy a Superman key chain but it's hard to get a Hulk one. No iconic symbols.

Was it you guys who already posted this or have I stumbled down a rabbithole of infographics? There was a hiccup of a black-on-black costume in the '90s after Bruce Wayne reclaimed the cowl following the "Knight-something" saga and Dick Grayson's first run as Batman. But I suppose this is technically more about the bat symbol than costume changes themselves. Still worth mentioning, though.
