6 Ways to Enjoy Free Comic Book Day 2014

Happy Free Comic Book Day! What is Free Comic Book Day? Here’s the description from the official website: “Free Comic Book Day is a single day – the first Saturday in May each year – when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely FREE* to anyone who comes into their stores.”

*Check with your local comic book shop for their participation and rules.”

Here’s how to get the most of your day.

    1. Find a participating local comic shop – Most good comic book stores are involved in this event, but make sure before you head down there. Check the store locator to see if your favorite store is listed or find a new favorite store.

    2. Figure out what comic book you want – Anyone can just wander down to the store and sift through the piles. But the real pros will survey the haul and make their decision on what to get beforehand by checking the list of free comics first.

    3. Get there early – It’s a good bet that the best comics will be snapped up quick, so you want to get down to the store ASAP. What are you waiting for? Go now!

    4. Wear a costume – You can just go down in your grubby T-shirt and jeans that your significant other keeps telling you to throw out, but you’ve had way longer than you ever knew them, and…sorry, where was I? Oh, yeah. Don’t be a slacker. The pros will seize the chance to dust off their cosplay outfits and show off. Make the day more interesting.

    5. Read your comics – This might seem obvious, but we know some of you are gonna seal your comics in mylar with a cardboard backing, and tuck your new comics at the back of a dusty vault, hoping they increase in value. Don’t waste your time. They won’t. Do what Free Comic Book Day is all about, put your phone on silent, and read.

    6. Tell your friends – Can you believe there are geeks out there who still don’t know about Free Comic Book Day? Let them know! Spread the joy! And if you do go, come back here and let us know in the comments what you scored.

BONUS: Can’t make it down to the store today? No problem. In this new age of digital comics, you can still join in the fun. Dark Horse is offering digital comics for free to download today. And Comixology always has free comics available year-round.

Love this day. I was traveling all day and didn't get to my shop in time. 🙁

Yesterday I got more free comics than ever before on FCBD. So it was a good day.
