When computer generated special effects first appeared in movies, they really blew us all away. However, as CGI grew more and more sophisticated, the cracks started to show. Looking back, a lot of sequences we all found amazing look pretty cheesy. WatchMojo has assembled this collection of ten awful CGI movie sequences.

Which do you think is the worst CGI sequence? Did you actually like these? Did they miss any?

I liked The Mummy Returns but that CGI Scorpion King was pretty lame. But maybe in 10 years we'll be saying that about "Iron Man 3" or "Man of Steel."

    2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on February 4, 2014 1:30 am

The deer in The Ring II were awful. Although the Indiana Jones films was by far the worst movie no matter what the special effects looked like.

    3. Rusty Carl on February 4, 2014 2:29 am

Interesting that so many of those movies were also not very good. I mean, the LOTR films had some shots that were pretty bad (CGI Legolas doing almost anything), and the SW prequels had Annakin riding that cow thing while he was wooing Padme, which was one of the worst fx shots I've ever seen.

But it's hard to disagree with what they chose here. They were all pretty bad.

    4. Liesel Hill on February 4, 2014 3:21 am

Yeah the Scorpian King was pretty bad. I seem to remember a film called Evolution that was also pretty bad. It wasn't an otherwise respected film–no idea what the budget was–but it was a summer blockbuster that was supposed to be great and just…wasn't. Great list, though. I haven't thought about most of these in years (the ones I've actually seen, that is. :D)

    5. Kev D. on February 4, 2014 1:47 pm

Great list. "I Am Legend" will always be the number one worst for me.

    6. Nigel Mitchell on February 4, 2014 3:24 pm

      Most likely, Pat.

    7. Nigel Mitchell on February 4, 2014 3:24 pm

Indy truly earned its place in bad movies

    8. Nigel Mitchell on February 4, 2014 3:25 pm

I agree that those shots you listed were terrible, Rusty. But a bad special effect in a bad movIe seems even worse.

    9. Nigel Mitchell on February 4, 2014 3:26 pm

I remember "Evolution,"and it was terrible. CGI was bad, too.

    10. Nigel Mitchell on February 4, 2014 3:27 pm

Like he said, Kev, why couldn't they just use humans? The CG Darkseekers just didn't work. Decent movie, though

    11. Jessica Stank on February 4, 2014 4:21 pm

I will never forgive them for what they did to, "Star Wars: A New Hope." It makes me angry every time I see it.

    12. Tony Laplume on February 4, 2014 4:53 pm

The Scorpion King deserves to top that list. Although most of it seems to be compiled from movies that aren't very popular (to say the least).

    13. DAVID WALSTON on February 4, 2014 8:05 pm

I likee the Mummy movies, but hated that Scorpion King ending.

    14. Nigel Mitchell on February 20, 2014 11:12 am

Yeah, that was a cardinal sin
