In my novel, Flying Saucers, I have an evil alien robot named Kayoz. He’s a satire of the standard evil robot in science fiction. A lot of robots have wreaked havoc in movies and TV shows. Here are the cream of the crop.
10. Maximilian (The Black Hole)
When mad scientist Dr. Hans Reinhardt feels his mission to enter a black hole is threatened, he sends in his robot sidekick, Maximilian. Maximilian doesn’t say much, but he doesn’t need to. His arms are propellers that can slice, dice, and make julienne fries…out of your face.
9. EV-9D9 (Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi)
In the bowels of the evil Jabba the Hutt’s fortress, R2-D2 and C-3PO are enslaved and taken to a torture chamber run by EV-9D9. EV-9D9 uses special technology to inflict pain on other robots who get out of line. She’s a robot who tortures other robots. That’s a new level of evil.
8. Lore (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
Lore (Brent Spiner), Star Trek: The Next Generation |
Before science officer and android Data came to be, he had a predecessor and android “brother,” Lore. Unlike Data, Lore is capable of emotions, including love. Unfortunately, his emotions also manifest in jealousy and genocidal rage.
7. Megatron (Transformers)
Hugo Weaving (Megatron), Transformers |
From a world of transforming sentient robots, the Decepticons are dedicated to the destruction of their enemies and humankind. The leader of the Decepticons is Megatron. In his original incarnation, Megatron became a little handgun. In the movie, Megatron transforms into a plane and a huge cannon. Megatron is Mega-scary.
6. Number Six (Battlestar Galactica)
Number Six (Tricia Helfer), Source: Syfy |
In the original series, the Cylons took the form of one-eyed robot warriors. In the new series, the Cylons can take the form of human beings. One of the most prominent is Number Six, a beautiful and seductive blonde woman. Although she infiltrated the Colonies and brought about the near destruction of the human race, getting to see her in various forms of undress kind of made up for it.
5. The Gunslinger (Westworld)
The Gunslinger (Yul Brynner), Westworld |
In a theme park where robots act out human fantasies, the Gunslinger is your generic tough guy. His programming drives him to engage humans in gunfights, but a malfunction causes him to pursue his targets with unrelenting efficiency. Even tearing off his face doesn’t stop him.
4. Bender (Futurama)
John DiMaggio (Bender), Futurama
Source: Infosphere |
He’s rude, crude, and loved by all. He’s Bender, the bending robot from Mexico who loves blackjack, hookers, and booze. But Bender is a simple robot with a simple dream: to kill all humans. Maybe one day, he’ll make his dream come true.
3. The Sentinel (The Matrix)
When robots take over Earth, and exile humans to the underground city of Zion, they employ the Sentinels as the eyes, ears, and weapons. Known as the Squiddies, the Sentinels roam the sewers in search of humans to destroy. Their multiple arms are instruments of terror.
2. Ultron (Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes)
When Hank Pym (commonly known as Ant-Man) creates a robot with his own brain patterns, the end result is Ultron. Ultron develops a hatred for Pym and all humanity, dedicating himself to world conquest and destruction. He was featured in the animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and will soon take center stage in the Avengers sequel, Age of Ultron.
1. T-800 (The Terminator)
The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), The Terminator |
In the distant future, the sentient AI Skynet sends a robot in human form called the Terminator back in time. He’s a robot with a simple goal: kill the target. Nothing can stop him, not even destroying everything but his arm or even time itself. Hasta la vista, baby.
Who’s your favorite evil robots? What other evil robots can you name?

Terminator always wins!
Number Six wasn't evil. Not by the end of the series anyway.
You know that a list is legit when it has Maximilian on it!
Megatron could just step on most of those robots, especially the Terminator. Though in Transformers Unicron was even worse than Megatron. He could eat whole planets!
One of the reasons I love lists is because I never would have thought to write down the most evil robots of all time. But if there is one thing I learned from movies, it's that most of those aren't robots – Robot means slave… and most of those are definitely not slaves. Maybe… smashy-smashy-egg men.
totally… i was thinking the same thing,
How dare you include Number Six! Or Bender!!!
There are a lot of evil robots to choose from. Don't know if the film was popular enough to get into the Top Ten but there are some brilliant evil robot moments in Eyeborgs. Also what about the Stepford Wives? (original version)
