Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner |
Ben Affleck’s wife says he’s going to be “fantastic” as Batman.
Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck’s wife since 2005, was at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new movie Dallas Buyers Club.
But, despite the fact that she doesn’t want to be known “wife of Ben
Affleck,” the reporters had to ask her about he husband’s new role as
Batman in the Man of Steel sequel Superman vs. Batman.
It’s been quite a stir, but Garner said, “Believe me, you can’t expect
anything else. He’s a grown-up … that is just what you’re getting
into. But he’s going to be fantastic.”
She was also asked how she feels about being married to the next
Batman. She said, “You know, I was excited for him. I was excited
because he had a real take on what he wanted to do, and you know, I
have to say, my husband is a pretty great storyteller himself, and I’m
excited to watch him do it.” They actually found out a while back that
he had been cast and had to keep the role secret for “months and
months.”
They asked if Affleck has started practicing his gruff Batman voice,
but when asked if she’s heard it she cryptically said, “I hear every
voice.”
Affleck is a huge fan of Batman and even has a Batcave in his house.
Kevin Smith went to visit him and found out he has a revolving bookcase
in his house like the Bruce Wayne has to get to his Batcave.
Kevin Smith explained: “He brings me into the room and goes, ‘Look at
this’. There’s an office room and this beautiful bookcase – he reached
under and he clicked something and all of a sudden the bookcase opened.
“I was like, ‘No! You built a f***ing Batcave?’ And he was like, ‘No I
built a Batcave entrance!’ When you went in behind the bookcase it was
a panic room.”
That’s the ultimate Man-Cave.
Jennifer told Allure magazine that she rarely walks the red carpet as “Ben Affleck’s Wife”
saying, “Sometimes it’s a pain because my heels are so high and it
would be really nice to have his arm. And he’s such a great date! But
it can be too much. I think especially for women, they can really lose
their identity and just become ‘wife of’.”
Even though she has a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award, Ben Affleck’s wife name will soon be “wife of Batman.”
What do you think about Jennifer Garner’s assessment of her husband? Will he be fantastic as Batman?

Great job Kevin Smith, now we all know how to get into Affleck's panic room! I'll be rooting for him to make it work by Christian Bale set the bar pretty high.
I don't know where all the Ben Affleck hate comes from. He seems like a nice enough guy and he's a decent actor.
So when he says To the Baycave, he means it,
Batcave. Stupid auto correct.
When Jennifer Garner says "I hear every voice."… It makes me wonder if they role play a lot. 😉
I read about the hoopla. I think he can pull it off, although I want more Christian Bale.
My favorite will always be Michael Keaton, but Bale comes in second. Withholding judgement until I see him in costume.
And if you can't take Elektra's word on it…
I am looking forward to Batman having a Boston accent.
Jennifer Garner's assessment of her husband is irrelevant to me because I wouldn't expect anything less from her to support him in his new role. It works to his advantage, having that kind of optimism from someone who he is not only married to, but a person who also understands the pressures of getting quality roles, continuing to work and lengthen one's career and also the kind of preparation necessary to take on the image of iconic figures AFTER other actors have already done it to great response.
I'm looking forward to seeing what he does because I honestly would prefer Christian Bale to continue as the comic book superhero. I just hope that too many people don't give Affleck any grief for being cast as Batman. Daniel Craig got flack for playing James Bond and Leonardo DiCaprio got flack for playing Gatsby…but I think that Ben Affleck will be able to pull this role off. His acting has evolved to a point where by now, he's proven that he has the chops to do big pictures and can hold his own on both sides of the camera. It is because of that that I think he can bring a level of sensibility to the movie that some other actors (assuming that Bale would still be out of the picture) might not be able to do.
Do I think Affleck is reaching? Maybe…but not in a in-over-your-heard kind of way; I think that by becoming Batman, if all goes well, this can certainly take him even higher in the film game, giving him the right to be on par with many of the top actors who are celebrated for years and become true representations of their craft. If I had it my way, Bale would still be Batman but since that's not the case, I ain't mad at the casting choice of Affleck. Nope, not one bit 🙂
