Peter Mayhew stopped at Denver airport over lightsaber cane via @TheWookieeRoars |
Peter Mayhew, the actor that played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, had his cane taken away at the airport because it looked like a lightsbaer.
On his way home to Boyd Texas, the 7 foot tall actor had his cane seized by US Transportation Security Adminstration staff at Denver Airport and tweeted “Won’t allow me through the airport with me cane! Giant man need giant cane. Small cane snap like toothpick. Besides, my lightsaber is just cool. I’d miss it.”
Fans of the 69-year-old actor, who needs a cane to walk bombarded the TSA in protest.
Eventually, they let Mayhew board the plane as he tweeted, “Magic words to TSA are not please or thank you, it’s Twitter. Cane released to go home.”
He later tweeted with his cane
Astronomer Ray Sanders tweeted “TSA just learned Star Wars lesson #1: Let the Wookie win.”
Chris James added: “TSA doesn’t mess when you roll with a Wookie and a Lightsaber.”
Are you glad Mayhew got hi cane back? Do you think the TSA should have tried to take it?

Taking his cane is going a little overboard with security!
I don't think a 69-year-old actor was in any danger of hijacking the plane with a lightsaber cane. Sometimes these TSA guys aren't very bright, but then again they aren't exactly the cream of society.
TSA seems in general to have something against older people. Glad he got his cane back, though I do feel sorry for anyone else in need of an aid going through that airport security check who doesn't have a large twitter following.
Clearly they could see it was Blue & not Red like the Sith.
yet these jackals get to feel up your wives… this is the saddest thing, we need to stop this TSA garbage… we won't let anyone take over a plane anymore, we are smarter than these doof's. Peter is a kind… kind man…
Taking peoples canes seems wrong. Do they take crutches and wheel chairs, too?
I don't get it either. Maybe they thought it was just s decoration?
He really is. A big, but kind man.
Yeah, if I used a cane I'd probably never get it back TS.
Just a little Alex.
If we have to worry about 69 year old terrorists we're doomed anyway.
That should be a TSA guideline David. Beware the path to the dark side.
I saw him at DCC. Ah, good ol' DIA.
