Ready To Rumble Over Sequel Cash & Strong-Arming
The fight for Avengers
contracts is heating up. Specifically for the key actor Robert Downey
Jr. ”I don’t know,” he said on The Daily Show. ”I
had a long contract with them and now we’re gonna renegotiate.” One
exec described the contract negotiations this way, “I wouldn’t say it’s
brutal. It’s uncompromising, not mean or draconian. The fact
is this is the reality of the world we’re living in right now.”
With the Avengers sequel scheduled for 2015 there’s a lot to fight
about.
Some actors only got paid $200,000 for Avengers (not
including bonuses) while Downey got paid $50M. Actors like Mark Ruffalo
and Chris Hemsworth are much bigger names than when they negotiated
their contracts. They will no doubt hold out for more. With Downey
holding out for a bigger paycheck, the price of the film is going to go
through the roof and Marvel’s CEO is balking. (via – Deadline.com)

TV
- Defiance “The Devil In the Dark”
Plot: When Hell Bugs start
killing people in town, Law-Keeper Joshua Nolan (Grant Bowler) suspects
it’s murder.I missed the last episode, so I don’t know if I missed anything, but
this episode really helped to expand Irisa’s (Stephanie Leonidas)
character when she learns she can see past, present and future in
visions. But, other than the world-building, it was pretty standard
fair (3/5 stars) - Doctor Who “The Crimson Horror”
Plot:
In Victorian England bodies are showing
up a horrifying red color and one has an image of The Doctor (Matt
Smith) in his eye. Harkening back to classic Doctor Who episodes, this one did a
good job making a compelling and terrifying situation. Plus, there was
a strong motherdaughter theme. Plus, it was fun seeing (3/5 stars) - Revolution “The Love
Boat”Plot: Miles (Billy Burke) is
forced to work with Tom Neville (Giancarlo Esposito) when President Foster assigns them to
get a scientist working on a bio-weapon for Monroe. There was a lot going on in this episode including a revelation about
Aaron and Tom completely disowning his son. (2/5 stars)

That's the hand Marvel dealt themselves by pushing for an Avengers movie and now it's the unfortunate price of success. Of course they could remind Mark Ruffalo that they've already had two other guys play the Hulk so clearly he's pretty replaceable. But if you can't get Downey and Hemsworth then what are you going to have, Captain America, the Hulk, Ant-Man, and Hawkeye? That would be pretty weak. So just pay them already. Though really $50M and he wants more? Is he trying to amass enough money to actually be Tony Stark?
And I'm glad to hear Jurassic Park 4 is on hold. It's a terrible idea.
After watching the Riker video I decided that every time I sit down I would do the same… apparently you need to be taller to accomplish this move. My 5'8" frame only allows me to do this maneuver with the kiddy chairs & then my girth will not let me fully enjoy the seat.
disney needs these actors to return, they could never think to replace or remove them… it is a staple for them to return. sure you can lower the screen time and introduce new characters, but they all need to be cooler than the ones we know. the sequel will bring in the big dollars and as they string us to this film, we will want to see it more… and more cupcakes… lots of cupcakes. 🙂
They'll pay if they want another Avengers movie.
Don't think missing last week's Defiance mattered.
And sad about Harryhausen. He was a legend.
I do enjoy campy bad movies. Star Crash is the best ever made. Still not sure what to make of Defiance. I gave up on Revolution in the fall. I can't believe it's still on the air.
The Riker video is awesome. I think I noticed but never really noticed that it was a whole thing. What's more notorious is that he always leads with his head, leaning into it, when he goes off walking somewhere.
Well, I'm glad I didn't miss anything Alex.
The first one made a billion dollars Jeremy, but Disney is notoriously tight-fisted. It'll be a battle to see who blinks first.
The key is to choose very short chairs. I'm going to carrying my own around for just such occasions.
It's hard to believe Downey's complaining about $50 million, but that's Hollywood I guess. JP4 is a huge gamble Pat.
It's funny when you put it all together how funny it is. You're right. Someone should make a supercut of him walking Tony.
