Alex J. Cavanaugh’s Ten Sexy and Smart Science-Fiction Women [Guest]

This month we have a very special guest in Alex J. Cavanaugh. He’s the owner of the wildly successful blog http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/ and the leader of a virtual army of Ninjas. Besides being a cool dude, he’s also a best-selling author of two novels CassaStar and CassaFire.

    Take it away Alex!

Maurice invited me to doa guest post for The Geek Twins some time ago and it did not take me long to

think of a suitable topic – sexy women. However, eye candy alone isn’t enough.

The most attractive women are multi-faceted and very smart.

So I present to you ten sexy, smart, and appealing women from the science fiction movie and TV

    archives:

    10. Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter in Stargate/Stargate: Atlantis

She was the brains of the operation. Samantha had a big heart and always wanted to do what was right. She

was attractive on many levels, but the show never exploited that fact.

    9. Jolene Blalock at T’Pol in Enterprise

She’s a Vulcan, so no question she is smart. But T’Pol brought at new element to the race – sensuality

and sexiness while being standoffish. Certainly the show exploited her body, but I’m sure every underwear decontamination scene was vital to plot and character development.

    8. Jewel Staite as Dr. Jennifer Keller in Stargate: Atlantis and Kaylee in Firefly/Serenity

No matter what character she plays, Jewel plays to her strength – a sweet, caring person. As Kaylee, she

was the heart of the group and her sweet, naïve nature was the sexy aspect. And a little engine grease didn’t hurt either.

    7. Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine in Voyager

Severely damaged, incredibly smart, and yet emotionally child-like. She was very analytical and

the ship’s problem solver. She was also the character you most wanted to get through the tough exterior to see the woman inside.

    6. Tricia Helfer as Number Six/Caprica in Battlestar Galactica

What was sexy beyond the dress? She was that chick you always wanted to hook up with even though you knew it would end badly for you. Incredibly smart (albeit to an evil grand design,) she played the temptress while manipulating everyone around her. In later episodes, as Caprica, she became more human and vulnerable.

    5. Erin Gray as Col. Wilma Deering in Buck Rogers

She was my first TV crush and I’m sure holds a special place in the hearts of most men my age. As a

colonel, Wilma was one of the first women on TV in charge of others. She could hold her own against Buck as well. (Ultimately, yeah, it was the white jumpsuit.)

    4. Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity in The Matrix movies

Trinity was cool, and dressed in the black leather outfit, sexy as h**l. She was also very computer

savvy and passionate about her beliefs. Her cool exterior only masked her deeper feelings. And her scene with Neo in the beginning of Matrix: Reloaded is very erotic.

    3. Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies

This also goes back to a childhood crush. Leia was cute, sexy, smart, and sassy. She was every bit in command as a princess but willing to do whatever it took for her people. She was passionate and determined. And dressed in her slave outfit in Jedi, incredibly sexy.

    2. Milla Jovovich as Leeloo in The Fifth Element

Milla’s character was almost the equivalent of a god – she was the fifth element. She was strong and

possessed great strength. She was also very naïve and yet eager to learn. Her innocence was endearing, as was the natural shape of her body. In the days of plastic surgery and enhancement, Milla is refreshing.

    1. Terry Farrell as Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Living through seven other hosts, Dax brought much wisdom to Jadsia. This did not squelch her playful side though, and she was strong enough to take on Worf. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wondered how far down those spots ran…

Any of those lovely ladies your favorite? Any smart and sexy women of science fiction I missed? Your tastes may vary…

Alex J. Cavanaugh, also known as the Ninja Captain, is the author of CassaStar and CassaFire and his blog can be found at http://alexjcavanaugh.blogspot.com/

    Thanks Alex!

    1. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 4, 2012 10:43 am

Thanks, Maurice! And the ladies are listed in no particular order. They are all equally beautiful!

    2. George Beremov on June 4, 2012 10:59 am

Great list! I'll go with No.7, as I think she's the sexiest. 🙂

    3. Melissa Bradley on June 4, 2012 11:15 am

Great list, Alex, though I loved these women for different reasons. 😉 I'd also go with Gena Torres as Zoe from Firefly and of course Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley.

    4. Cathy Olliffe-Webster on June 4, 2012 11:19 am

Oh man, I was really hoping my photo would be up there….

    5. Michael Abayomi on June 4, 2012 12:41 pm

Great post. I gave up watching TV ages ago, so most of these women (and the characters they play) are foreign to me. But I loved Carrie Ann Moss in The Matrix and Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element. But where is Sigourney Weaver as Ripley?

    6. Jaybird on June 4, 2012 12:56 pm

I loved your choices. Got to meet Erin Grey at a Comic-con (one of my husband's personal favorites), and she still looks great! !

    7. Karen Lange on June 4, 2012 1:44 pm

I've only seen a few of these movies but it seems like you made good choices. If anyone could, it would be you, Alex! Thanks, Geek Twins, for hosting him!

    8. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 4, 2012 1:48 pm

      George, she is HOT.
      Cathy, that made me laugh!
      Jaybird, that's awesome!

    9. Cassie Mae on June 4, 2012 2:02 pm

No Dr. Who women, huh? 😉

    10. Allison on June 4, 2012 2:11 pm

Two Stargate mentions? You must be a Stargate fan 🙂 Good choices!

    11. Cate Masters on June 4, 2012 2:34 pm

No Angelina Jolie? One of my favs is Sigourney Weaver. Great lineup, Alex.

    12. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 4, 2012 3:18 pm

Cassie, I'm not a Dr. Who fan – sorry!
      Allison, BIG Stargate fan.
      Cate, never found Jolie attractive.

    13. Cherie Reich on June 4, 2012 3:32 pm

      Great list!

    14. Jen Chandler on June 4, 2012 3:53 pm

Great list! This was fun 😀

    15. Nick Wilford on June 4, 2012 4:45 pm

I didn't know all your choices, but I enjoyed the post! I must admit to a teenage crush on Seven of Nine.

    16. Heather on June 4, 2012 5:18 pm

      Yes! To all!

      MULTIPASS!

      HMG

    17. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 4, 2012 5:22 pm

Nick, I admit to an adult one!
      Heather – funny!

    18. jeremy [retro-zombie] on June 4, 2012 5:52 pm

heck yes… great strong list of ladies… i am adding "Andromeda's: Andromeda… Lexa Doig… meow!

    19. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 4, 2012 8:29 pm

      Did Jeremy just meow?

    20. jeremy [retro-zombie] on June 5, 2012 12:17 am

      yes… yes i did!

    21. James Anderson on June 5, 2012 2:08 am

All good choices. I would have to go with Jewel in the number 8 spot. She has that girl next door look. Plus, she was smart enough to put not only McKay but Bill Nye and the rest of the science community in their places on SG Atlantis

    22. The Golden Eagle on June 5, 2012 7:46 pm

The only character on this list that I know is Leia–sigh. I have so much SF catching up to do.

    23. M Pax on June 5, 2012 9:57 pm

I liked Amanda Tapping a lot, but not for the sexy factor. 🙂 Claudia Black in Farscape … she kicked some a$$

    24. Donna Hole on June 6, 2012 4:29 am

Yeah; I was happy to see Leeloo, Trinity and Dax. I am surprised you didn't also list counselor Deanna Troy or Tasha Yar from TNG. You only had a limited number of slots though. Shame you couldn't put Kate in there somewhere 🙂

I approve your choices; but seriously, 7 of 9 needs a more appropriate costume . .

      ……..dhole

    25. Carrie Butler on June 6, 2012 6:08 am

      Shiny list, Alex! 🙂

    26. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 7, 2012 12:33 am

James, Jewel would be real close to my top choice.
Mary, thought about her as well.
Donna, Kate would've been there. And by more appropriate, do you mean less? No? Bummer.

    27. spacerguy on June 7, 2012 3:15 pm

Kaylee sure knew her engines! She can check mine over anytime, LOL.

    28. The Man-Cave on June 8, 2012 4:12 am

Alex J.'s list rocks. Love that he added Wilma…but what about some love for the evil, sultry Amadala?

    29. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 8, 2012 3:30 pm

Cassie, not a Dr. Who fan.
      Geof, she was too evil.
      Spacerguy – funny!
      Thanks again, Maurice!
