E is for The Empire Strikes Back
When most people rank the Star Wars films they put Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980) at the top of the list. So, what do you do if you’re one of those people that doesn’t like Empire Strikes Back (ESB)?
It’s my personal favorite for what I call the BIG REVEAL, for those few who haven’t seen it.
Not everyone agrees its the best of the series though. In fact, George Lucas says its the worst.
While many informal polls have The Empire Strikes Back at number two in the list of Star Wars movie rankings, the American Film Institute has Star Wars at number 13. In fact, ESB isn’t even in the list of the top 100 when compared to Citizen Kane or Casablanca. So, what’s a movie fan to do if they’re in a group of The Empire Strikes Back lovers?
I’m going to throw this question to you:
- If someone doesn’t like Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back what should they do?
- Do you think it’s the best or worst of the saga?
- Can you think of anything that might change someone’s mind?
Let me know in the poll and the comments.

If I met somebody who thought that 1) ESB was the worst of the series 2) Didn't like ESB…I have no clue what I would do.
I don't think anything would change someone's mind. I certainly think it's the best. That Lucas doesn't does not surprise me though. (After all, he made I, II, and III…)
Hi there! Following you right back, and excited to get my geek on!! 🙂
Actually, it's not letting me follow you. 🙁 Oh well – I'll try again later. But you're saved in my RSS reader!
Welcome Jessica! I like that one. I might use it!
The only problem with it is that there was no doubt there was going to be a sequel (which was also good with the exception of those dorky Ewoks). Still, a cool, cool movie.
And much better than "Howard the Duck."
Found you on the challenge list.
Good point Al. If you only watched that one movie and didnt watch the one before or after, you'd be pretty disappointed.
I have a four-year-old who LOVES Star Wars. I have never seen the movies so many times in a row. And this one is good. It's funny, has lots of Darth Vader, introduces Yoda, and has one of the most famous reveals ever! It even keeps his attention the full way through, which you can't say for any of the prequels… 🙂
I'm clicking on random blogs that catch my eye from the A to Z Challenge website.
Love me a Dalek or two…
here's my ranking:
IV, VI, V, II, I, III
yay star wars! may the force be with you!
Cool posts here! I' ll be following you later when I get on my laptop instead of this smart phone.
