The casting rumor for Ahsoka season 2 could be positive or negative depending on the direction you like the Star Wars franchise. YouTuber and scooper Kristian Harloff said on his most recent podcast, “I got word that [showrunner Dave] Filoni is trying hard to get this one character back. I don’t think it’s a signed deal yet, but it’s close, and it looks like, in ‘Ahsoka,’ returning could be one Natalie Portman.”
The showrunner is working hard to bring back a character, possibly Natalie Portman since he’s a fan favorite of returning characters like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Boba Fett.
Portman, like Christensen and McGregor, played Padme Amidala in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy from 1999 to 2005. She played the young queen of Naboo, who had an ill-fated romance with Anakin, leading to Force Choking and her death during childbirth. Padme’s death was attributed to a “lost will to live,” a controversial aspect of the prequel trilogy.
Rumors suggest that Ahsoka season 2 may feature a “World Between Worlds” concept, a fictional space in Star Wars lore. This space allows for meetings between living and dead characters, as seen in the show’s first season. This could be a way to bring back characters who have been killed off, a potential appeal to Star Wars fans.
The casting rumor for a new “Star Wars” movie may cause groans in other fandoms. Disney’s most successful releases during the Disney era have focused on new characters, like “Rogue One” and “Andor.” However, “Solo,” a movie about Han Solo’s origin, was the biggest failure. Since the sequel trilogy, progress on more “Star Wars” movies has been slow, with projects being developed and canceled.
The TV series based on Filoni’s animated shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels, has received mixed reviews. Legacy characters like Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Luke Skywalker have received some excitement, but season one’s focus on these characters may sideline them. However, Padme’s posthumous performance may make it worthwhile.
