After multiple failed starts, Paramount finally fulfills its long-standing pledge to provide Michelle Yeoh with her Star Trek vehicle. The previously wicked Phillippa Georgiou is the main character in the Star Trek: Section 31 movie. The motley gang supporting her in her adventures is given more attention in the most recent trailer. Watch it below:
The film, directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi, a producer and director of Star Trek: Discovery, begins with Georgiou leading a life in the prime universe as the proprietor of an upscale club on a space station outside of Federation space. Everything appears to be going smoothly before Section 31 agent Alok (Omari Hardwick) arrives to try to enlist her in its named black ops division. The task? Get off the books and deal with a new threat the Federation cannot control. Georgiou and her team know they will undoubtedly get their hands filthy, even if Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl) of Starfleet is there to prevent the team from breaching too many rules.
This crew includes the exosuit-wearing Zeph (Robert Kazinsky), the shape-shifting spy Quasi (Sam Richardson), the honeypot specialist Melle (Humberly Gonzalez), and the volatile Fuzz (Sven Ruygrok). In contrast to the original, opulent, and luxurious video, the new one depicts the team using their abilities and getting down to business, akin to mayhem like dogfights and club shootouts, while announcing that cooperation is essential to their survival.
However, we have yet to see them confront the dubious, ethically dubious material shown or alluded to in past Star Trek episodes. Given that Georgiou is still dealing with her past as an Emperor, you have to assume that the darkness is concealed behind the spectacle and explosions we are accustomed to from Star Trek.
We’ll know when Star Trek: Section 31 premieres on Paramount+ on January 24, 2025.
Are you looking forward to watching Section 31 next year?
