Who are the hottest Hispanic women in sci-fi?
A few weeks back, my brother ran a post on the hottest Asian women in sci-fi. So I thought I’d flip it and cover another underused minority: Hispanics.
Whether you use the term Hispanic or Latino, I’m referring to the representation of the Latin community in science fiction film and television. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) defines Hispanic or Latino as “a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.”
Hispanics are underused in Hollywood, but especially in science fiction. So as
a Man of Color (and a geek) I presen some of wonderful and beautiful famous Latin women in Hollywood.

Recently, Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) got a “Lifetime Achievement Award” and Esai Morales (Caprica) got an “Outstanding Achievement Award” for their work in Science Fiction and Media. While speaking on the panel discussion, Olmos was reminded about the Emmy he received for his work on Miami Vice.
“It
really does bring attention and awareness to the individual…I was the
first Latino, Mexican American, born in the U.S. to get that award as a
lead actor. And I hated it! I hate being the first anything to be
honest with you.”Olmos said.
After this surprising statement he pointed to the audience and said,
“Do
you finally maybe see how important it is to just have a representation
inside of the system? So that everybody just looks equal!”
It
just proves that there are beautiful women of all races and ethnicity.
Who are the most attractive Latin women in science fiction? Are there some women we missed? Would you change the order?

I can see his point where the downside of being first is it means no one else had done it before, which when you get into 30, 50, 75 years of certain awards means a long time without an equal playing field.
Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are personal favorites. They should do a movie together.
Nice list! To bad I'm not on incognito Chrome.

I'm a huge fan of both Michelle Rodriguez and Gina Torres–I love the mix of badass and sexy they can pull off. And you're right, Latinas are hugely underrepresented in film (as they are in medicine–one of my dayjob goals is looking at career trajectories for underrepresented groups, whether by race, ethnicity, gender, SES)
Okay, so I'm not the best to judge this list, but I adore Jessica Alba 🙂 And Alexa Vega–totally didn't recognize her from Sky Kids!
Very saucy indeed, I can see Uhura has been a very naughty little kitty.
If the lightsaber is from a New Hope, then it was Anakin's from Revenge of the Sith. I'll take that one, its seen lots of action.
Lightsaber hands down. Phasers are a more practical weapon, but lightsabers are just so damn cool!
Well I used to make lightsabers out of old wrapping paper tubes, so which do you think I'd choose? If I were given the choice I'd be like, OMG, ME WANTEE LIGHTSABER!!!!!
Alice Braga?????
Lightsaber, no brainer.
I know the practical applications of lightsabers went to the roof in the prequels, but the phaser is more versatile. In this case it's not really a matter of which one's more cool. I mean, if you have a lightsaber chances are very good that you will fight another dude with a lightsaber, and chances then exponentially improve that you lose a limb. Or several. So, a phaser it is.
Easily lightsaber. Much purer than the phaser; also no stunn mode – all or nothing; as it should be ;). And if it wasnt for me, just take the words of the greatest lightsaber master ever Obi-Wan; "not as clumsy or random as a blaster. An elegant weapon, for a more civilized age."
That would be an amazing film Meradeth! I like how Rodriguez casts as many Latinos as he can in his films.I would never have recognized Alexa if I hadn't seen the name.
Good suggestion! I'll add her to the list!
LOL Sorry David. I tried to keep the images PG-13.
Another great suggestion! I hope Hollywood is listening.
oh gosh… lightsaber, chicks dig a dude with the lightsaber… it's like oohhhh look at the guy over there with lightsaber… he has it going on.
this is the hottest list of anything you have shared… and we thank you. i would like to add the babysitters from Grindhouse: Electra and Elise Avellan… http://www.beingretro.com/2012/08/sexy-two-for-tuesday
This list is burning up my computer right now. So hot. Damn.
Morena Baccarin was awesome in "V". I realize I'm probably the only person on the planet that liked it but she killed it in that show 🙂
I think Machete Kills is already out of theaters 'round these parts so I'll have to wait until DVD to check it out…curses!
Thanks my Man! I liked V, but not as much as the original series. Great cliff-hangers though.
Srsly? Lightaber vs Phaser at anything over 10ft and the Phaser wins hands down. Hell I'd take a .50 hangun over a lightsaber in that case. The kicker is that the force must be strong in you to even use a Lightsaber and the stipulations do indicate that one would in fact be imbued with the force upon acquisition of said Saber. Lightsaber by itself? Worthless. Lightsaber plus a heaping helping of midocholore-whatevers? Priceless.
